I upload every cd that I have at mp3 320k with 500 plus cd and roommates libraries, space on a 60gb hdd was gone, I bought the eSATA 500gb hdd to use as an eSATA drive then got wd250gb scopio internal hdd, then I saw wd's new usb 1tb hdd and liked it's looks, and price plus I will be reinstalling ydl 5.0 soon!

Drive rpm might have been a problem, or the data transfer rate of 3gb per/sec I thought that the PS3's hdd controller would handle access issues.
Drive RPM can't be a problem, as others have tested 2.5" drives with 7200 against 5200. A recent test said that the two drives have negligible heat issues. So speed can't be the problem. Have you tried to ask HDXT's tech support about it?

I just upgraded ours from 60GB to the Western Digital 250GB - couldn't wait any longer for Seagate

Roughly 20GB was game save data (6 user accounts), game demos, game data that is installed to the HDD to speedup some games - the rest was taken up with MP3, photos, home movies etc...60GB gone just like that

For the last month I've been deleting demos to make space for new content..now I don't need to worry for at least another year.

Also created the 10GB partition so I can install YDL Linux this week,,

this would be good but it is 3.5 inch which makes it only good for external applications, and I got my wd 1tb usb for about $300 US at bb could have got 1tb with eSATA connection for about 400 something.

too fast though the PS3 is 5400rpm, there are a couple a places saying it will be fine but i think it would def overheat.

Don't forget that when you upgrade your HDD you will need to reinstall all of your game data (not saves) before you can use your old saves again. To clairify all the network updates for games like Motorstorm and Resistance that are downloaded through the online community(not PS store), then you can redownload any add on content for them.
