It's more likely that your TV is set to detect letterbox content and zoom in automatically. My last television could do this.

I'm a bit curious, as reviews of this Blu say it's essentially a horrid transfer. Would the digital download from Amazon be the same? I simply ask because I watched Vision Quest, one of my fave 80's movies tonight on HD, and it was a very clean looking transfer, as the DVD transfer is abominable. Any chance Color might be better digitally?

I think he gave great performances in The Hustler and Hud, but outside of that I think his best performances are from The Verdict (1982) and on. That's not to say that I don't enjoy him in other older films, but I think he did his best acting work as he grew older. In fact, he believed the very same thing I do believe.

I borrowed this from my library and wow this does look pretty bad for a bluray... people weren’t kidding. such a shame. Especially as it says on the back that is “astoundingly digitally remastered”. I wish Marty was a little more proactive in getting his own films restored/preserved as much as everyone else’s

I just saw this again today, and i still can't figure out how eddie used vincent?? is it because eddie used vincent to get his game back and beat him in atlantic city?? i don't think that's it, cause i'm pretty sure vincent dumped on purpose, so how was vincent used by eddie?

My take is, Eddie was using Vincent’s talent for 60% of every win (or lose). Eddie is a hustler and he knew Vincent was very good playing. He taught him to win by losing and the night after Eddie was hustled himself he decided to split on his own. He finally got his confidence back after his eyes were fixed. Then he was back into it, played Vincent in the tournament and Vincent played Eddie at his own game. Now Eddie loses confidence again. We never know who the real hustler is.

I am watching this on Prime now. I know many people do not like this movie, but I love it. I grew up playing pool though and that has a lot to do with it. I wish the transfer was better for the blu-ray. I will just stick with the DVD. I doubt this will get a better treatment since it is rated so low.
