Everyone with a Sony player should flood Sony with e-mails.

My Sony is the BDP-S570. I have had nothing but problems with my Game of Thrones box set since I got it at Target on its release date. The discs will MAYBE load the first time I place them in the tray, but after that my player will lock up/freeze if I try to load any of the other discs. I usually have to unplug the player and plug it back in again, and that's getting to be a nuisance.

Aside from that hassle, what I find a little odd is this: I saw a brief animation of the white tree with the red leaves at Winterfell (where Ned went to meditate) for the very first time immediately after I loaded Disc #1 into the 570. And after that one time that I've never seen it onscreen again. It doesn't show up when loading any of the other 4 discs in the set, and now it doesn't even appear when I go to replay Disc #1. Go figure.

I don't know what's going on. I almost went out and bought a new BDP-S580, until I saw this thread and now realize almost everybody is having this same problem irrespective of the player they own.

If this is something Sony can address, they need to do so PRONTO. If this is a software problem, then HBO needs to issue a statement saying as much and offer to replace the outstanding defective sets (if indeed they are). I read The Digital Bits on a daily basis and I've seen nothing about this situation there, maybe word is just slow getting out. Whatever is going on, I wish we could get this fixed!

But I don't get it? I have a Sony 360 and it's not updated (last update was last summer) and this set as been playing without any problem for me, the loading time for each disc is about 30 to 40 seconds max.

Same here. Strange, isn't it?

I am wondering if it could be my USB stick I put in it a few years back? I had some problem with the loading of THX-1138 and got a cheap USB stick and I just left it in there. I never had any more problem with Blu-ray or loading time since doing that.

I find it ironice that Blu-ray, being a SONY product, seems to have the most playback problems on SONY players (and PS3's).

This is one reason why I bought the Oppo player. Haven't had any "wide" ranging playback problem with known playback issues on certain players. Only had one disc that was known to be bad, Chronicles of Riddick, that had pause, skip ahead problem. I also have a few bad discs in my BSG Season 2 set. "Pegasus - Ext. Cut" and some other episode on the following disc freeze up. Probably need to rebuy that set. Haven't watched Season 3 or 4 yet.

It's not their product, they helped fund and develop it.

Game of Thrones does have problems on some Oppo players...

I'm quite shocked that a big release like this has so many problems. Firmware updates better be released asap.

Same thing for me. I have the Sony BD 350 (so old that he doesn't play DTS-HD in HD and DTS 7.1 are play in 5.1) and i don't have problems playing all 5 disc.
The loading may be a little bit long (+/- 20 sec) but everything is fine.

(The only problem i got during the last 5-6 years was with the BR of Starship Troopers. I need to insert a USB stick in the player to be able to play the disc.)

This menu system is ridiculous. Makes watching the DVD's completely useless when you have Netflix. I get stuck in the menu system where it keeps asking for another DVD, when the episode should be on the disc that I have. I'm trying to watch Episode 5, on disc 3, but it keeps asking for disc 2.

I have a Samsung Blu-Ray player, that has up to date firmware...

For some reason episode 5 is on disc 2. Disc 3 only has episode 6

I feel the same watching DVD, my problem is that they're only 480p so now I only watch BD.

Default Problem Solved!

Bought a Samsung player this afternoon at Wal-Mart, model BD-D6500. It plays all 5 Game of Thrones discs perfectly, no problems whatsoever. Decided to keep my Sony BDP-S570 around for a back-up player. The only thing about this Samsung that will take getting used to is the load mechanism, which uses a slot instead of a tray. All's well that ends well!

FWIW I finished watching the series last night on a PS3 80 GB (Fat) with firmware 4.0 without issue.

Has anyone had issues with disc two episode three?
At several points in the episode it would freeze up then skip ahead as if it couldn't read the disc in that particular spot. Upon inspection, the disc itself looks fine. So far this is the only issue I have encountered. Bad disc perhaps?

HBO has included a survey in the blu rays. I would suggest adding our comments about the discs/menu there.
