I held off on buying that one several years ago for two reasons. Someone in my family already owns it and it's not anamorphic.

Sucks that we have to wait until 2013 to get True Lies on BD.

At this rate, True Lies might as well come out in 2014 for the 20th anniversary... talk about making me feel old, I remember seeing it in the theater

By that logic, one could say the same thing as Jaws. lols
Actually, no. His post was exactly this:

"And in other news, this would normally go in The Rumor Mill, but it's easier to just post it here: We've been checking with our industry sources and have confirmed that 20th Century Fox is definitely planning to bring director James Cameron's The Abyss and True Lies to Blu-ray at long last. Sources tell us that the hope is to do a big promotion with the titles sometime next year. Why the wait? Cameron is a pretty busy guy these days, so these things take time. (Hey, when was the last time you tried diving to the deepest point in the ocean?) Nevertheless, rest assured that the two long-awaited films are definitely coming to Blu in the not-too-distant future. "

So yes, it's still a rumor at this point. In fact, every title is a rumor until an announcement is made. He says they hope to do a big promo... nothing is definite. And I wouldn't call sometime in 2013 a general release date. If so, that's the broadest release date I've ever seen.

Since we've waited this long for True Lies and The Abyss to be released on blu-ray, it really doesn't matter anymore.

I hope they do it right with a 4K restoration and with lossless 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

I have yet to see Avatar and I still refuse to see it because of the Best Buy store chain.

There have been plenty of hints dropped about these two movies before, but then Jimbo ends up going to the bottom of the ocean yet again and the releases end up forgotten about. And with the Avatar sequels just around the corner, time is at a premium.

I'll rejoice when I get Abyss and True Lies in my greasy little hands, until then: pfffft.

Could not care less about True Lies, but man is The Abyss long overdue...
This release better be awesome (top tier transfer, and both versions).

Yeah, and: cropped pictures, advertisement banners, logos, edited for content, no lossless audio, and highly compressed 1080i. These are the main reasons I don't watch movies over satellite.

I am hoping for a seamless branching disc like he did with Aliens. I am fairly certain that it could stretch it legs on a BD-50 with a commentary and then if he wants to throw in some more extras that won't compromise the PQ Cameron could always throw in a second BD-25.

Yep.

Everything that you mentioned, but those 'advertisement banners' that show up during the movie/show over the picture drive me absolutely *APE....*!

It just baffles me that they keep doing this and are getting away with it.

Also something else nutty, is when they speed up credits and talk over them. One example is when they do it to 'Gangs of New York', as it has a fantastic soundtrack on the credits that they now ruin.

BTW, I heard that Spielberg's films(at least the ones he has made in the last ten years) cannot be altered in anyway when its televised.

Is that correct???

You know, now I that I think about it you are right. When Raiders of the Lost Ark has aired they run the credits all the way through. They make shrink the screen off to the side and lower the volume slightly while something else plays, but it runs all the way through to the "All characters portrayed in this film are fictitious..." note.

With this latest news, I guess I'm lucky to have True Lies in HD recorded on my DVR, courtesy of Encore. Looks like it'll have to do until 2013.
