One would think the expense is fairly negligible but Olive isn't the only distributor who skips subs so maybe there's more to it than we think.

I'd be interested to know just what's involved too.

If I remember correctly, I believe cmac (from Shout Factory) mentioned that the cost to add subtitles to their releases is not trival. Hence he must weigh the options of either adding subtitles, at times, and foregoing something else (limited budget per title) or foregoing subtitles all together. I realize Olive is a different distributor but I'd imagine it's a similar circumstance.

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing that has me curious.

On the surface you would think you could essentially just hand an intern a keyboard and a pair of headphones and tell him/her to go nuts or barring that you could just port the subs from previous DVD releases but there must be more to it than that or distributers wouldn't give it a second thought.

I'm wondering what that 'more to it' must be.

You sure about Night of the Grizzly? It doesn't release until June 26 and there's no movement in my pre-order, ImportCDs doesn't usually ship until a day or so before release.

My order of Night of the Grizzly just shipped from importCDs and I likely won't see it until Monday.

Surprised you managed to get it today.

Watched Night of the Grizzly last night. good family movie I'm sure its not gritty enough for some people. P.Q. was good there is want I would call video noise here and there and something weird going on in the far left side of the screen sometimes. overall it looked like film no DNR sound was fine I had no problems understanding the dialog. Glad to add this to my Westerns. lots of actors from my youth in this one.

No, not very 'gritty' - for years I thought it was a Disney film, it's kind of along the lines of 'Old Yeller'. I remember seeing it & enjoying it as a good, one of the reasons I'm looking forward to it. Sounds like Olive did a good job on it.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't buy something just to rave on the internet to be cool. I prefer post 60 Godard and I truly stand by that statement. Numero Deux is one of his best films in my honest opinion, and I am not alone in that.

Edit: I would also like to take the time to give praise to Olive Films for even releasing these (along with fantastic Fassbinder films that has never been released previous.).

So, do you work for Olive or are privy to insider information?

If I had to guess, I'd wager the weaker looking Olive titles are the ones from existing HD masters, and the better looking ones are the ones they personally scanned from 35mm prints and nitrates/safetys.
