According to the Amazon UK page, the UK digital copies are UV

Hope UV dies a death, and soon.

So paying so much more for a couple hours of extras. Pass.
There are only extended editions of the first two films. The other directors have no interest in re-cutting the films so if you're holding out for more Extended cuts you'll be waiting for eternity.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but for all those non-UK residents wishing to import this set they don't have to pay V.A.T so the price is more like £162.49 rather than the £194.99 listed on amazon.co.uk.

It's also been my experience that you get free shipping if your order is over a certain amount, which I'm sure this would qualify for considering its high price.

I wonder if we'll get the extended editions and 'Creating The World..." documentaries on Blu-Ray this time or whether Warner Bros. will screw us over again.

People from the US don't get free shipping at Amazon UK but it doesn't appear to be much (3 pounds). My total comes to $261US, which is $90 cheaper than what it costs on amazon.com. The main downside to this set is, all of the DVD's in this set won't work for US residents unless they have a player that supports PAL.

I've to pay VAT according to the Amazon.co.uk invoice.
So I'm not sure where you got that information from.

I think that's an EU thing though, I don't think US (and outside the EU) customers are charged.

We from Finland have to pay even more with our VAT being 23% instead of 20% in the UK. So the price goes up for us. Luckily we get Free Super Saver Delivery for orders above £20.

£194.99 or £36.99....
I don't care how pretty the box is, paying an extra £158 for it is just something I could never do.

I've got the regular 8-disc set, but I've ordered the Wizard's Collection because the set contains all the goodies from from the Ultimate Editions (which cost £25 EACH) plus the 3D versions of the Deathly Hallows double bill. Guess how much that little lot comes to if you wanted to buy them separately? £190, give or take a few quid, and seeing as I haven't got any of the above I've got my order in for the £195 UK set. Why not buy them separately then, if the price is the same? The Wizard's Collection will have some new content, and it comes in a natty box too.

As a bonus, Warners might do the right thing and include the extended cuts of Philosopher's Stone and Chamber Of Secrets on Blu-ray in this set, unlike the standalone UK Ultimate Editions which had the longer cuts on DVD only. Given that the UK version is purported to contain the same amount of discs as the US version (31) I'm fairly confident Warners will oblige us this time.

I do feel sorry for the folks who've patiently collected the UEs only to be met with this rehashed boxset, but such is the nature of the home video beast. I regularly upgrade and/or replace titles in my collection, and selling stuff on is easy-peasy, so I never get too bent out of shape about a new piss-taking boxset.

Luckily I never bought any of the Potter movies on either Blu ray or DVD, it was obvious that something like this will turn up. If this set has the Extended Cuts for films 1 & 2, and also the 'Creating the World' docs then I will consider buying it. However I do hope that WB releases the Ultimate Editions in a regular boxset without the cheap tat. I can't stand the cheap tat that studios release with UCE's.

The UEs of Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2 are being released this year, so don't feel sorry for us just yet.

I feel sorry however, for the suckers that are buying the Wizards Collection though. You're throwing away £130+ on a lump of wood in the shape of a small chest, with some paper and cardboard guff inside of it!

WB no longer stands for Warner Bros. It stands for "Wallet Butt****ing".

What's the point in the UK Ultimate Edition's that have already been released though, as none of them even have the extended versions on the Blu-ray discs?

Still don't understand why WB did that, it makes no sense whatsoever and is a shame as if they had put them on the Blu-ray's aswell I would have bought them.

I really hope this set has the extended versions of the films on the Blu-ray aswell as the DVD.

But if the Ultimate Editions are £25 each then that's £200 for the set of 8. This is (just) less than that in a nice presentation box with five extra hours of exclusive extras and the 3D copies of the final two (whether you personally like them or not it's better value for money for them to be included). Plus the hardback book (though it may be identical to the collector's boxset from last year) and the possibility of the extended editions on blu (though we'll see) and the "cardboard guff" putdown can be applied to the UEs as well, though the stuff pictured here looks very well designed and mostly informative rather than just filler.

So all the content of the UEs plus more for less money - it's fair enough that you have the individual releases and are happy with them but this boxset does represent better value for money. The people who buy it aren't "suckers".

Heh. I've spent a grand total of £32 on buying the HP movies so far, unlike the folks who no doubt bought the DVDs, then the Blu-rays, then the UEs. And I'm the sucker for ordering the set which almagamates ALL that extant material into one box for what is actually a very competitive price? Whatever.

There is of course the question as to whether the set has the UEs of Deathly Hallows or not. It would suck if Warners are releasing a super duper box that will be obsolete mere months later, but it wouldn't be the first time and it certainly won't be the last. However, parts 7 & 8 of the 'Creating The World Of Harry Potter' documentary are included in the big box, so that's a fairly big indicator that the last two UEs will be part of this set in some way. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if the new content is simply the bonus discs from the as-yet-unreleased Deathly Hallows UEs.

Extended editions is the other issue hanging over this boxset, but the non-suckers who've built up their collections of UEs and whatnot will face the exact same problem of obsolesence when Warners inevitably release longer versions.

Lowest pre-order price I've seen thus far is £186.95 at thehut/zavvi, undercutting amazon by about a tenner.

Please tell me this isn't taking place of the Ultimate Editions???

If there's one thing I really HATE is when studios start releasing a Special Edition of a series and after a while, they just stop. So after releasing four movies of eight, they say:

"We have decided to cease production of the Special Edition versions of these movies."

They've released six so far and the final two are due this year. So no, this isn't replacing them though it looks certain that it will at least contain their extras.

Yup. There's only the UEs of Deathly Hallows to come, and if Warners don't release them alongside the boxset in September then they'll be out in time for Christmas.

Besides, the last few UEs have simply been a rework of existing material bundled with the relevant part of the 'Creating Harry Potter' documentary and some extra tat, so it's not like they've been anything truly special. It'll still be nice to get it all bundled in one box, mind.
