Downhill in the sense that he has to carry a boatload of drywall down the stairs

Looking good EMAGDNIM. I'm thinking about picking up one of those 40ft redmere cables to replace an older Monorprice cable I've got in my theatre that is about as thick as a fire hose.

I spent the entire afternoon in the pool! It was needed as it was hot as heck outside. I forgot what outside is like with this basement project...

Ugh don't remind me about the drywall

And the smaller gauged redmere cable was a heck of a lot easier to run then the older much thicker HDMI cables I had at my old place. If it's ever back in stock over on Monoprice, I say go for it!

Next on the list is the itchy stuff That should be arriving sometime this week I believe.

Should be a good time installing it right?! RIGHT!?!?

Alright, so I had today off and I was able to look at tiles for the washroom, and carpet. I think I've decided on both. I didn't take any swatches/tiles home just yet.

The carpet installer will be coming by tomorrow morning to measure out the space, answer questions and give me a proper quote.

Oh and this was also delivered...There's about 8 bags of this stuff...

Good times right?! It's looking like it's going to be crappy outside all this weekend so I'll be sweating in the basement installing this stuff.

I've also send out for quotes for drywall I'm looking to have it delivered in the next 2-3 weeks.

Last but not least, it was my birthday last week, and a friend who's teaching in the UK brought this back for me while visiting...

It looks like I'll be looking proper for this upcoming season

Man I can't wait till I can kick my feet up and watch my first Manchester United match...

Well thank you

Here's some snaps of what I've been doing. I took these during the install. I had placed more of the pink stuff in the walls after these pictures...

And thankfully I snagged this light before starting the project...

This is my main light source for the basement till I'm finished with the drywall.

And speaking about that, I have placed my order for 45 sheets It's being delivered this week Saturday. I won't be installing it till the following weekend. I should have it completed that weekend.

I also went out earlier this morning and finalized the carpet choice. I placed my deposit and I should (fingers crossed) have it installed for mid October.

I've FINALLY decided on a projector (that's in another update) but I've got to decide on smaller components (Bluray player, Harmony remote, speakers, sub).

It's all coming along guys

Wish I had that light when I did my install... good idea! Did you order the drywall from that place that will actually carry it down the stairs for you? At 45 sheets, assuming you can mange 2 at a time and don't have to split them that is still 23 trips to the basement... wouldn't want to do that.

Do tell on your projector choice, did you go JVC in the end?

Yeah I went with a place that will bring the drywall sheets into my basement. Money well spent! Especially after dealing with that super itchy stuff earlier. I had to take a cold shower afterwards.

I figured for and extra $70 tacked on to the delivery, it was stupid not to...

As for my projector choice...I did in fact go with the JVC DLA-RS55. I was going back and forth, back and forth. Thinking about going with the RS45 and holding out to see what's next from them. I was REALLY close to buying the Sony VPL-VW95 but because of Sony's new MAP pricing guidelines, it INCREASED the price of the unit and there was nothing I could do about it.

The Sony does handle motion a lot better then the JVC. I've had enough seat time with both to say that. I'd give the blacks and contrast to the JVC.

The 3D I found to be better on the Sony. There was a bit less ghosting and flickering on some of the tougher titles that I had watched on both projectors.

There was also less lag on the Sony for videogames. That being said, it was not terrible playing games on the JVC, but after jumping back and forth, I noticed a difference.

Where the JVC REALLY shines is while watching blurays. The colours were more truer on the JVC. I found the Sony to be a bit more saturated. Keep in mind that both were calibrated.

In the end, I decided to scoop one up since Cedia is next month and this vender was looking to make a steal of a deal. So much that I couldn't walk away.

Yeah, it's going to be quite fun hanging all of it up I have to do the main room, 3 walls of the mechanical room, the hallway, part of the storage under the stairs and the washroom...

My father in law has offered to take next Friday off in order to help me hang this stuff. Super nice of him to do so...

And now, what's driving me to kick this up into a new gear...

Yeah, I picked this up and now it's back sitting in the box. I needed a bit of motivation to kick it up into high gear and this is it!

This week, I'm planning to buy the bluray player I've had my eyes on for a bit. I got the call that it's been discontinued so the price was slashed. I'm picking up another pair of 3D glasses. I'll probably end up with 5 in the end.

I also need to buy a mount and I've been talking to dolphinc about the mount he's using for his X3. It looks perfect for my setup. I'll probably place my order this week.

^^ Thanks!

So I gave the bank account more of a workout today.

First I was talking to dolphinc about the Peerless projector mount that he purchased. I was about to suck it up and pay about $350 CND for a Chief mount with the special JVC RS plate. After discussing it with him I did a bit of homework and the PRG-JVC-DLA is the same as the one he had purchased (A Regular PGR). Even though the mount I had mentioned is apparently a JVC specific mount, the bolts that fasten the mount to the projector is too small

Not a problem as he told me exactly which set of bolts to buy In the end I placed my order for one! I picked it up for $140 CND shipped to my door. You can't beat that!

I also finalized my screen choice and placed the order today. Since it's a special size, case colour and material combo, it will take 2 months to complete. Not a big deal since I don't technically have a ceiling

I'm also looking to get a Logitech Harmony remote I'm thinking about scooping up either the "One" or ball out a bit and get the 1100. I need to go through the owners thread here and see what's what. If anyone here uses one with their setup/projector PLEASE feel free to post what you think about it. Your likes and dislikes, I want to hear about it...

Last I'm just about to pull the trigger on a Pioneer BDP-140. Now that I can get one for $129 CND I think it's foolish not to. I will pass by my local big box store on my way home tomorrow and just bite the bullet.

I have been spending a LOT as of late. I still need to decide on what sub (or SUBS) I want to run. I haven't even giving that much though.

Hey there! Thanks for the info on the remote. It's a bit of an expense, but I think it will be worth it since I'll have a wackload of components in the setup.

And the projector was an expensive choice but I think it will be worth it. I usually upgrade every year, but I plan to keep this for at least 2 years. I'm going to try and hold out for true 4K tech for under $10K.

As for the BR player, I've read about the hangups via ethernet. From what I understand, it did not play nice when paired with a Pioneer receiver that's also sharing the net. I have a Marantz receiver so I should be good on that front. They still haven't solved that problem with those two components not playing nice, but I shouldn't have an issue with my setup *fingers crossed*

I was planning to run the safe and sound but I ran into an issue with installation. In order maximize the benefits, you have to lay it as flat as possible. Sounded great till I realized that the HVAC in my ceiling would give me crazy issues. I would not be able to lay it the way I want, and it was too tight in some area. From what I've researched, I would be wasting money. I decided switch my order up. With the added savings I would drywall caulk the seams, and run double drywall. I still have money in my pocket from the switch.

I should be good to go...I've done a few volume tests, and I couldn't hear the music from the basement on the main floor.

i have the 1100.....

(i have to laugh a little every time is see that vcr icon on there)

i absolutely love it.

i've read some reviews that spoke of the negatives of having to look down at the touchscreen to make sure to hit the correct icon, thus taking your eyes off the screen and possible missing something important.

my question is if this is a problem then why did they purchase it. it's pretty much a given that you have to look at the screen to make sure you hit the correct icon. yet they purchased it anyway and now they put a negative review about it.

it's called research and thinking.....some people do it.....others.....not so much.

anyway...

i love mine and the fact that it has rf capability if needed. hide all the components and the remote will still work with all of them.

i even have mine set up to control the accent lighting behind my tv.

Thanks sk33tr, my wife loved the look and feel of the 1100 when we were looking at a few at our local big box store (I was looking at TV's).

From what I've read so far, I'm leaning towards the 1100. I'm going to do some more research but I think I will end up buying one. I just need to find it for cheaper then $350 CND

I'm also trying to decide on a display for the space. I *Want* a 70" Sharp, but I feel like I'll have to give up other things that I want to purchase for the space (plus I want more car parts HAHA).

I'm thinking about a 60"-65" Plasma display. We are looking to start a family and the little ones will be watching treehouse tv. Whenever I'm downstairs I'll be looking at the projector mostly so I can live without having the best set there. I mean I could move my D8000 downstairs but I don't know right now...

For Subs I ended up with an SVS, they have a Canadian distributor in Richmond Hill where I picked mine up. Lots of options out there but if you go the SVS route look up sonicboomaudio.com.

Remote wise, I really like the look of the 1100. It does take some getting use to not have hard buttons for all your functions but I've grown quite accustom to my iPad for a remote and in the end don't miss them. I think the 1100 is a good blend between touch screen and hard buttons.

BD player wise have you given any thought to an HTPC? I ran an Oppo for awhile, then switched to a Sony Mega Changer and eventually landed on an HTPC, granted there is an expense and an investment of time to consider but in the end the performance is pretty fantastic!

If you think there is a chance you are only going to keep that JVC for a year you let me know, who knows if I'll have a new projector by then or not.

Edit: One thing to consider before you start drywalling, have you run any cat5 to the light switches? Or have you considered any switches or dimmers with IR on them? You may want to drop a line there incase you want to integrate your lighting into your remote.

SVS is a bit too rich for my blood considering what I've been spending/looking at. On the high end of the sub budget, I was thinking about the Klipsch SW110B (maybe a SW112B if the price is right). I still have to get a price from my friend who works at one of the big box stores I visit.

On the low end I was looking at running a pair of BIC Formula F-12's. I don't know since I haven't found a place locally that I can listen to them. I can only go on what people say online

I've thought about a HTPC but I'd have to really plan that out. And I'd be looking at more then I originally planned to spend for the space. I've talked to my wife about the positives of running one. She seems to be interested in have all those love/romance movies on hand at the push of a button. I think I'll build one sometime next year. I guess I'll be hanging out in the HTPC side of things when the dust settles.

As for the remote, you guys are twisting my arm I'll start the hunt to find one under $300. After discussing it with my wife, she loves the fact that she won't have 5 remotes hanging around and that everything will be programmed for her to use the space. She feels intimidated using this stuff.

I never thought about running cat5 to the switches. It's a nice touch having dimming capabilities controlled via the remote. I don't know how long we will be living here so I didn't go all out with the space (though my excel file tells my wife another story). I think I might just do so since it doesn't cost much.

And that was the quickest call on dibs on something I own I've ever had HAHA!
