I've been a longtime naysayer on the use of digital over film cameras. Even Avatar, with it's superb 3D, didn't have very appealing photography in my opinion (it's live action scenes retained a very video look).

But I have to say I've been really impressed by the format over the past couple years. I've loved the photography of Hugo, Game of Thrones, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, & especially Prometheus. But the revelation that Fringe Season 4 was shot digitally is mind blowing to me. I usually notice the change when a show goes from film to digital. But, again, I honestly didn't have the slightest clue in this case. Kudos not only to the crew, but also to the makers of those cameras. Really, just excellent work.

Can't wait to check out the PQ on this set tomorrow - should be a beauty.

I have to respectfully disagree. IMO the best digital cameras are the red one cameras that David fincher has been using. In addition the conversion to bluray using video captured from the red ones look near flawless. For example both the social network and girl with the dragoon tattoo we shot using red one cameras. And they look fantastic in their bluray forms as well. A more recent film shot with the red one cameras is the new spiderman movie. But anyway I am eagerly waiting the review for season 4 of fringe.

I've seen some really great digitally shot films/TV shows, and a lot of poorly shot movies/TV shows. I've been in a big TV kick lately with the release of recent seasons of shows like Sons of Anarchy, Homeland, and The Walking Dead. Out of those 3, it's no contest that The Walking Dead looks the best, and it's not even shot on 35mm but 16mm film. The show has a texture that you just can't get with digital. Now, sure, TV doesn't have the budget of most movies and their digital look is going to be better.

Fincher still seems to be the king of Digital right now. Zodiac, and all of his recent films look absolutely great. But my faith in digital still gets shaken when something as poor looking as Pirates of of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides or Rock of Ages comes out. Now, these movies don't look amateurish, but they certainly pale in comparison to film.

Fringe S4 slipbox is not lenticular but it is very glossy and looks nice

Lame, the best buy exclusive sticker has "dvd & comic book"

There is no bonus dvd

If there is, I didn't get one

It just seems like they didn't create seprate stickers for the blu-ray release.

At least the comic is a variant of the "real" one - I'm guessing it's a "mini" version of the comic?

yeah that's what I figured, they just slapped the sticker from the dvd exclusive on to the blu-ray

as for the comic... I dunno, don't have the real version to compare to

The real version is the size of a normal comic book. If the version that came with that Blu-Ray set is the size of the case, it's a miniaturized version of it.

I thought you were wondering if the content was the same
it's only like 38 pages

the mini comic book is same height but 3/4th the width of the blu-ray case
it is not well done... you probably have to squint sometimes

Didn't go for the exclusive since there is no better packaging and I don't care for the comic, but the slipbox for this is glossy as all hell and looks amazing. Love it.

Don't spend $5 extra for 1 mini issue of a 7 part comic book series. Just buy the trade paperback which collects all 7 issues, for only $9 from Amazon:

Not to derail this thread too much but I have security stickers that I peeled of the tops of my cases if any one wants to buy them. $15 each plus $3 shipping.

My copy of season 4 is shipping soon so I should have it Thursday. Can't wait

Seen Season 1 of this show, but thats the extent of what I've seen of it. Not going to watch this until Season 5 comes out on Blu-ray and then I'm going to watch the whole thing.

Really excited. And since its a short season, Season 5 should be out in less than a year.

I just picked up my copy of Season 4. I've been re-watching the entire show in preparation for the new episodes - I've got to get through Season 3 and then enjoy the new Season 4 set within the next 24 days.

I'm thinking when I get to the end of Season 4, I'm going to move my viewing of "Letters of Transit" until after the finale. When the new season aired, it seemed a bit jarring to tell that story in the midst of the main storyline of the season. I think it might be a bit more cohesive to watch that episode as the lead in to the new season.

Same here. Is there supposed to be a DVD bonus disc?

Nope. Its supposed to say "Blu-ray & Comic Book" instead of "DVD & Comic Book". They just put the DVD sticker on the Blu-ray.
