LC's is the best BBQ in KC. Period. Followed closely by Bryants. I like Gates, too. I've only been to OK Joe's once and ordered the wrong thing. We will go there again in July.
I just hate that it's in Kansas and has "Oklahoma" in its name. Back on track: I alternate Christmas and Thanksgivings in KC. It won't be long before I can catch a flick at the Barrywood. Perhaps the Hobbit? |

Glad to see everyone is enjoying their first BBQ, I mean Atmos, experience. I can't wait to sink my teeth into my first Atmos flick.

I am looking forward to the next Atmos experience already, although until one opens a bit closer they will have to possibly involve carpooling next time with the price of gas. |

I've only heard one movie with Dolby Atmos and that was DH5 lol
It was sickening and loud, like you could hear every individual piece of metal scrape against whatever it was going up against I'm gonna try to see Iron Man 3 with Dolby Atmos at Empire 25 Times Square if it's available |

Haven't seen GI Joe (and won't), but I did see The Hobbit and Taken2 in Dolby Atmos and the sound was absolutely fabulous on both. In fact, I only saw Taken2 because it was in Dolby Atmos (the film otherwise sucked).
Having said that, there is no standard for the theatre configuration of Dolby Atmos aside from using the new processor. A theatre can do Atmos with 10 speakers or they can do it with 64 speakers. They can have the overhead speakers and rear woofers or not. They can have the additional front side speakers or not. In the object model, the system finds the closest speaker in the theatre to where the mixer placed it in the space and sends the signal there. There is nothing about Dolby Atmos that makes it too loud. It's the sound mixer and director that makes a film too loud. In both the film industry and the music industry, everyone has forgotten that you create emotion by using dynamic range, not by blasting people out of the theatre for the entire movie. Most of the current Dolby Atmos films are first mixed to 5.1 or 7.1 and then they're sweetened using the object model. But as the film mixers gain experience, some have said they're going to do the primary mix in Atmos and then downmix to 5.1 or 7.1. So Atmos mixes should get better and better over time. The problem is that there aren't very many Atmos screens and theaters will use the generally larger Atmos screen for a non-Atmos film if they feel it will generate more revenue, relegating the Atmos film to a non-Atmos screen. |

Yes and to be honest I didn't really notice the sound coming from above. It was my first movie in Atmos though.

I'm always bemused when people come into an empty theatre and don't choose to sit in the middle (except, of course, for an old film in mono). Every theatre has a prime seating position. It's usually center, about one-third of the way back. |

In my late teens I used to go to this beautiful early 1900s theater which would only be open for special screenings. It was the place for all music concerts (Yessongs, tSRtS, etc.), and the projectionist was the uncle of a good buddy, he even told us which seat was the prime place. And indeed the sound was just so sweet there, perfectly calibrated. Dead center, about a third to half way from the front. And somehow being a balanced spot, the volume didn't seem as loud as elsewhere also. Worth it if you can chose. Edit: For those of you who either live, or know Montreal, I'm obviously speaking of the gorgeous Imperial Theater ![]() Last edited by pentatonic; 05-12-2013 at 11:26 PM. |

I agree I have yet to hear the 'voice of god' speakers myself - wish AMC had booked 'Mama' on the Dolby Atmos screen at Tysons, because the mixers purposefully put quite a number sound effects moments coming from directly over the audience. in regards to 'Iron Man Three' the Atmos mix when compared to the other films I've heard 'Oz' 'A Good Day to Die Hard' 'Oblivion' it was the most lacklustre of the bunch. |
