Stones brilliant recreation of the JFK assassination is as good as it gets when it comes to tension on screen.

His attention to detail is phenomenal and John William's pounding drums makes it one of the most powerful sequences ever filmed imo.

You might laugh, but the opening credit sequence in Fight Club gets my heart racing every time.

Several scenes throughout Run Lola Run, but especially the animated sequences as she's running out of her apartment building.

When the T. Rex attacks the kids in the park-ride car in Jurassic Park.

The scene at the class reunion when Ray Liotta's character first appears in Something Wild, with The Feelies playing Loveless Love, underscoring the moment perfectly.

The beginning of The Times of Harvey Milk with the archival footage of Dianne Feinstein announcing to the press that Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk have been shot and killed.

The performance of the song Exit in U2 Rattle and Hum.

When the Wicked Witch of the West disappears in the cloud of smoke and fire after threatening Dorothy (and her little dog too) in Munchkinland.

When the image freezes on Garp's son Walt's face and moves in for a close-up with a car horn blaring after the car accident in The World According to Garp.

This scene! I think I was yelling at the TV at the time, but it about to lose my mind. I brought it up recently because I bought it, and someone made a face when I told them I got and I asked if they didn't like it and they said "It's OK", and I started talking about this scene. How did this scene not make an impact on everybody who watched it?

Zero Dark Thirty: The raid in particular, which was odd because knowing what was going to happen created a more intense situation for me the first time I watched it.

The Thin Red Line: When the soldiers attack the Japanese camp on Guadalcanal. Hans Zimmer's amazing score helped a lot with this one. Brilliant scene that seems to dig into my very soul.

The Place Beyond The Pines: CONTAINS SPOILER!
[Show spoiler]Luke's final bank robbery, where you can hear the despair in his cracking voice through every word. When he gets on the motorcycle outside of the bank, that's when it really kicks in... The pursuit is terrifically filmed and staged, and when Luke's bike topples over before he enters the house, it is heartbreaking.

These are just a few examples... I'm sure I will think of more.

I'll agree with the M:I 3 opening scene as well. I actually consider that one as my favorite (of the 4). Ghost Protocol being 2nd

I too agree with most of these, but the most recent movie that gets me on the edge of my seat is the scene in Prometheus,
[Show spoiler]when Shaw performs an emergency C section.

Damn that scene gets me and my wife going, she can't even look at the scene. It's so nasty and realistic looking.....MMM Yum, puts me in the mood for some calamari.

Far and away the best part of that film for me.

Michael Cimino became a Hollywood legend with this ONE scene. It's amazing how he was able to keep De Niro and Walken at that level of intensity for so long

  • The jewelry heist in Le Cercle Rouge is the first scene that comes to mind. It's one of the most awesomely riveting things that I've ever seen in a movie.
  • The escape sequences in Escape from Alcatraz where Clint Eastwood and company finally execute their plans.
  • The final poker sequence between Bond and Le Chiffre in Casino Royale.
  • When the small handful of soldiers attack the hidden Japanese bunker on the hillside in Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line.
  • The blood test sequence in John Carpenter's The Thing.
  • Every scene in Henri-Georges Clouzot's The Wages of Fear after the two trucks get rolling. This movie is just a massive heart attack waiting to happen, and I know that my luck is going to run out someday when I'm watching it.

I know that you people are going to start laughing at me when I post this, but I don't care...
  • The moment during Rocky IV when, after Drago has been consistently delivering a series of harsh punches to Rocky Balboa for almost two rounds, Rocky finally lands that first good punch that cuts Drago on the face. It's like Drago is invulnerable and just effortlessly giving Rocky the beatdown, then POW!...right in the face! It's a cheesy film, but...man...that's an awesome moment.

Agree. I would add the entire sequence in the Mines of Moria. That just blew me away. Also, remember the scene towards the end, when they pass under those huge statues in the river? that was amazing as well.
