France The Long Goodbye (Le Privé) - transfer quality?

I've just discovered that Altman's 'The Long Goodbye' was released on blu-ray in France last October, under the title 'Le Privé'. Here's a link to the Amazon.fr page:

http://www.amazon.fr/The-Long-Goodby...A1X6FK5RDHNB96

Can anyone who has this comment on the transfer quality. Also, does this release have forced French subs when the English language track is selected?

Thanks for any info!

Thanks Tenia.

I think I'll wait for a better transfer, hopefully from Criterion!

Does this little trick work for ALL French BDs of English language films with forced French subs?

No, not always unfortunately. It much depends on how the disc is authored.

In some cases, the subs are not "forced" per se, it's just that, in the audio menus, there is no real subtitles menu, only the choice of french dub and original dub with french subs.

In other, the subs are really forced (like on Tess), meaning even during the movie, you won't be able to disable the subs by using your remote.
