I watched it and gave it a 2/5.
Basically its a horrible movie but yet I couldn't hit the 'Stop' button. Lindsay Lohan was the star here. The role of Tara seemed to serve as a therapeutic experience for her. The role of a washed up, strung out girl in the Hollywood scene, flitting between boyfriend to boyfriend, experiencing an affair, and all of that, it seemed to really make her take this role full charge and give it all she could. It showed that she can still be a venerable actress, just needs to get her things together. James Deen should just stick to porn. He is an awful actor outside of the adult industry and his line delivery is horrendous. The only time I was happy to see him was when his stuff was flopping around haha. You can tell Bret wrote Christian to be in a nutshell, a mirror image of Patrick Bateman, but James Deen isn't 1/10000000000th of an actor Christian Bale is so it comes off haphazard and more like a parody. Otherwise this reads much like a film grad's first film and the actors treat it like one. |

Apparently, the VOD version is 7 minutes shorter than the Theatrical version and those 7 minutes are full frontal nudity from James and the kid who played Ryan. Those cuts had to be made in order to get an iTunes rental agreement. The 7 minutes will be back on the DVD/Blu release.

This film may have had the most thought provoking line I've heard in a while from a film. "When was the last time you saw a movie that meant something to you, that really made you stop and thinks". Now that's a creepy thought. This shit film could have something so thought provoking and profound nestled in it. |

I have a deep appreciation for Paul Schrader's willingness to use and abuse his reputation to continue filmmaking in an age where the type of film he made famous is non-existent, and that instead of trying to repeat the success of his namesakes he changed form, holding up a mirror to the Hollywood that's left him behind, all at the risk of losing face (it felt like many favours were called in here). I do feel like there is material here for a "better" film, to some extent I agree with iScottie about the films script and actors, however I don't think that improving those parts would achieve what Schrader was going for or at least building towards. It's a film about a vapid city that exploits those who are willing to do anything, and these people are represented by burnt out stars, no name actors, and the porn industry. Their faces as empty as their actions (mostly sexual encounters where motives rarely seem to matter), as empty as the derelict LA theatres that open the film, and as empty as the canyons of the films title. Hollywood has gone past the existentialist angst of Paul Schrader's characters with their attempts at creating a meaning in their lives, and here I think he's trying to show what is beyond all the fear and questioning, pure emptiness.
