It was a very good film and well deserving of a Best Picture nomination. I personally did not like it as much as Lincoln or Flight but still an impressive film.

Afraid not. I'm not trying to be badass or anything, but nothing in the movie made me get emotional either way.

Also the only really sympathetic character died at the beginning.

Amazing film, worthy of a best picture/best director nomination without question. I am anxious to see what shakes out come awards season, there have been some excellent films released this year.

Most certainly all the tech awards noms. Gorgeous film. This and The Avengers are the most beautiful in terms of CG I've seen this year.

Visually stunning, great film. I wouldn't award it Best Picture but I'd NOM it at least

I think I hyped myself too much by not seeing any tarilers for this movie. The enigma-factor is too much lol..I am preparing myself for a disappointment :P

Yeah! Do that!

When me and my mates saw Iron Man, we whined and complained for two days strait leading up to it. We moaned that we were seeing and superhero movie about a hero no one likes. We even had a song, to the Spiderman theme, about how lame Iron Man is.

Wow! I was blown away by that movie! Kinda like the time a mate DRAGGED me to Watchmen.

Haven't see Life of Pi. I plan to on Blu. But yeah, I'm gonna avoid trailers, and stay out of this thread after now, and hopefully enjoy this as much as I did with Hulk.

Three superhero examples? I do watch other films... sometimes...

A visual stunner no matter what, but I think this definitely needs to be seen in 3D for the full experience. It was amazing. The workings and effects done with the animals was just stunning, I've really seen nothing like it. An absolutely gorgeous and moving film. 9/10

Gave it four stars. Excellent film. I swear the tiger in 3D scared the bleep out of me a few times. The search for God aspect of the story worked for the most part for me. In my top five for this year, but not the best.

Great film, one of the best I've seen this year. Shame this movie and Cloud Atlas are doing bad because they don't have superstars or superheroes.

You've really got to see this in 3D. One of the best 3D presentations I've ever seen, and it's actually for a *good* movie and it's in live action.

The story was also really good. Despite identifying myself as an atheist I was really moved by the film's religious message.

Thumbs up Amazing Visuals

4/5 - Simply the best 3D visuals i have ever seen. With good acting and an engaging story, this is one of the best movie i have seen this year. Bravo for Ang Lee and Twentieth Century Fox to adapt a challenging novel. I cannot imagine a better adaptation than this.
My only gripe is that the end did not have the emotional impact and also it missed the beautiful visual imagery that i got used to after seeing Pi in the middle of the Pacific.

Waiting for Cloud Atlas on Blu-ray. It's definitely the kind of film I could end up adoring.

I felt like Life Of Pi was more spiritual than religious. It makes you think about what you have faith in, even if it's not a specific belief system.

Yes, spiritual is a much better description! With Samsara, Cloud Atlas and Life of Pi, I've been having a particularly spiritual year at the cinema.

I agree with this, and that was another thing that annoyed me about the film. I cannot really stand the "spiritual but not religous" thing that's been trendly lately.

And also Pi's father was by far the most sympathetic character to me, when he said, "I'd rather have a son whose beliefs disagree with mine than who believes everything," [sic] I almost cheered, because I totally agree. Quite frankly, a "Catholic Hindu" is a preposterous thing to call yourself, the two religions are mutually exclusive.

I dont see why this is such a spiritual or religious movie - is Cast Away, Titanic, or Forest Gump considered a spiritual or religious film?

Life Is Pi is an awesome bittersweet adventure film. The dude had a traumatizing experience and moved on. Is that spiritual? I thought that's called life.

It was spritual, whether or not you missed that. Everyone agrees on that, including the people who made the film and the author of the book. Religious, not so much. That's why they made a point to show that he took from multiple religions, as opposed to to just one.

I also gotta add that there were more noticeable aspect ratio changes in this than in Nolan's Dark Knight movies. There was even one scene that was oddly shot in portrait mode.
Yeah, I noticed that as well.

The scene with the flying fish was mostly 2.39:1, so there are black bars at the top and bottom. However, some of the flying fish "break frame", extending into the black bars.

A few moments later, there is an overhead shot of the boat that is 1.33:1. Not sure why, but this had the effect of making me pay attention to the edges of the picture rather than the movie itself.

From what I understand Hinduism is a complex religion. They're are tons of gods yet all gods are in Brahma. It's a cross between monotheism and polytheism. The Christian god could either be Brahma or another god (an aspect of Brahma).

The father was a hugely important character. Pi even says without his guidance he would never have survived.
