It'll be SHIELD, but with Disney/Marvel behind it, I want this to quickly turn into the Marvel version of what Warner/DC did to Smallville, Seasons 7+
Ie., the weekly corporate "Superhero Idol" competition, where the parent company throws the main show plot out the window and auditions a different comic guest-cameo character every week out of the B-canon, to see who might get the spinoff and promotion.

(We could get Wasp, Vision, Dr. Strange, Luke Cage and Tygra by the end of a single season, who knows? )

And the project is already taking a disastrous turn, casting Ming-Na Wen as a lead actress. She was wretched in SGU and is really more suited for minor character roles.

I think people are going to be vastly disappointed when this show turns out to be similar to Alias 2.0.

I loved her in SGU, she is a pretty solid actress.

We will have to see if she can shoulder a major lead role though.

P.S: I somehow have the feeling that "Clark Kent" isn't going to be the most impartial voice about this show on the forum

I don't know her, but I admire the fact that they would cast someone her age in the role. Am interested in what other news there will be..

I will not be drawn into petty bickering. Both Marvel and DC have produced some horrible adaptations for the mass market.

She was in ER for years and very good in it too.
She's been in SGU as others have said as well as a reoccuring role in Two and a half Men back in the Charlie days

So, who are people expecting to be in from the Whedon Universe?? He's great at giving roles to people he's previously worked with so I won't be surprised if one or two of them show up. What's Summer Glau up to these days? Maybe she can get a role!

(The difference being, DC had Warner for a company long before Marvel had theirs, and DC did all their own horrible adaptations.
At least Marvel fans can blame someone else for "Elektra", who do you blame for "Steel"?)

I'm hoping for Amy Acker to play Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman. That's my dream casting.

There are tons of telepathic characters in the Marvel universe. Professor X, Jean Grey, and Emma Frost are the most famous ones, but I suspect their rights are tied to the movies at Fox and would not be available for this show. The non-mutant telepaths are all second-string characters that most fans would have never heard about outside of comics.

Two more join the cast:

Quote:
Iain De Caestecker ("The Fades") and Elizabeth Henstridge ("Hollyoaks") have joined the cast of Joss Whedon's pilot for Marvel's "S.H.I.E.L.D." at ABC.

Henstridge will play science whiz Agent Gemma Simmons, while De Caestecker will play Agent Leo Fitz, a technology guru. The duo will spend much of their screen time together, with the relationship described as akin to bickering siblings.

Henstridge and De Caestecker join the previously cast Ming-Na, who will play top-notch pilot and weapons expert Agent Melinda May, and Clark Gregg, who reprises his role from The Avengers as Agent Phil Coulson.

During an interview in support of his new Nova comic book series, Marvel Television chief Jeph Loeb confirmed what almost everyone was already expecting – that Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. is aiming for a debut next Fall as part of ABC’s Fall 2013 lineup.

In the late 70's/early 80's, the X-Men came back with a vengeance after barely keeping the title afloat for over half a decade (remember the five years of reprint issues....sold as newly-numbered issues of The Uncanny X-Men? 1970 to 1975).

After that, the X-Men RUINED the Marvel Universe. There's wayyyyy too many of 'em. They have a dozen too many books, too. Their rise to popularity began the worst age of Marvel, and of comics in general (1980-present).

They have ceaseless soap opera, and I guess I'm just not PC enough to care about their issues, and that ruins their stories for me, pretty much.

There have been a few good X-Men stories through the years, but not many, IMNSHO.

I honestly hope that Fox keeps them forever, and they never, ever, EVER get to interact with the rest of Marvel's characters on the big screen.....or the small screen.

Chloe Bennet ("Nashville") has been cast as 'Skye' in Joss Whedon and Marvel's upcoming series "S.H.I.E.L.D.". The character is described as a confident woman slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. [Source: The Live Feed]

I think the '90s permanently broke the X-Men comic book franchise. The success of the X-Men as a concept was largely due to one man, Chris Claremont. I would have to agree with most of your sentiments regarding the X-Men.
