I don't get why people were disappointed with the movie.
Because some of us like intelligent and well written stories? Prometheus failed on both those points.

I think that's a bit harsh. It had an intriguing story, but it was flawed and didn't answer all the questions everyone hoped it would do, that's it really, it wasn't a bad film.

Well by your use of the word "haters" I guess you can't be more than about 15 so it's not surprising that you know shit-all about how Hollywood operates.

This is what bothered me about the movie, and why I don't care if I see it again. The fact that the guy who wrote Lost was responsible for writing the movie, I suspect there will be a lot of loose ends that will never be tied up in a sequel. That would disappoint me to no end. However, if the sequel is made and it nicely explains some of these lingering questions, it will totally rock!

Well in all fairness it was written with the intention of it being a two-part film, but Fox didn't like that idea so they told Scott and co just to film the first part, hence why so much was left unanswered.

Also Damon Lindelof has been dispensed with and isn't writing the sequel, so no doubt the new writer will be aware of these unanswered questions and will focus on answering them.

So theoretically the sequel could be much better, it all depends on how everything is tied up.

28, thank you.

Okay, sure, the film could end up not going through. But in light of the announcement, it's more likely that it will go through than not. But "certain persons who are not overly fond of the film" are maintaining a strong assertion that this film will likely NOT happen purely based upon the fact that they didn't like the first installment. Whether or not the sequel comes to pass, the wheels are in motion to make it happen.

Well by your snide comments over the use and word "haters" you must be new to the internet, welcome, and enjoy.

Cant wait for this, i am in that minority who really didn't have a problem with the film. In the interest of full disclosure i am a fan of lost, so having a lot left up to my imagination and speculation was a plus and not a negative.

I really hope so. A good sequel that wraps these questions up in a nice way can totally redeem Prometheus, and I think could actually make it a better movie.

Well put.

I'm surprised that all the people that didn't like it are so against the sequel, despite the fact that it will no doubt answer everything we actually want to know.

This is just going to turn out to be The Phantom Menace all over again, where so many 'fans' will continue to have strong dislike for it even if the following films turn out to be better. You just can't win with some people, no matter how much you try to convince them.

Scott has said it will need three films to tie it all up with Alien, so we may not get all the answers, but probably the majority of them.

I take "passing the baton" to mean Lindelof believes he probably didn't write the best script he's ever written and doesn't want to be put through a wringer again. This s not to say the film wasn't any good (I enjoyed it but was slightly underwhelmed) but, busy or not, I think he genuinely does not want to tackle another Prometheus project and would rather watch from the sidelines. Personally, I would like to see another film, preferably sooner rather than later - 2015 is a long way out and I might even lose interest by then - but it's going to have to be something we TRULY haven't seen before. Prometheus suffered, IMO, from the "been there, done that" syndrome. It just felt like a mishmash of other, better films. But I'm a fan of the film and am looking forward to the Blu-ray so that I can watch it again and hopefully understand it better. I think it does merit repeat viewing and feel that it WILL improve with consecutive viewings.

I love Prometheus, warts and all. I guess that's how you know it's true love.

Well there's no denying it, that's how it's being looked upon. All that hype with the original director returning the franchise that made him a name with a prequel film and then a lukewarm reception: some loved it, whilst others hated it, same with TPM. Granted Prometheus I think is better, but it's still a valid comparison, no matter how much you dislike TPM.

I think the disappointment is really just because we didn't see origin of the xenomorphs. It looked like we would, but it was apparent that they had already been created and that Prometheus had nothing to do with the derelict on LV-426. And now we have the Deacon, and we're left wondering why that has never been seen again in the Alien films. I think the film would have worked just fine if they hadn't shown that mural depicting the xenomorph, because then we could infer that the Deacon eventually evolves to the alien we all know and love. But anyway, with its flaws, I still loved Prometheus and I look forward to seeing where a sequel will take us.

Anticipation can bite real hard when it doesn't live up to ones expectations.

Well I'm positively ecstatic over the news of a sequel moving forward, as I simply adored Prometheus. It's been my favorite film of the year so far (and yes, I've seen The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises ), and it'll likely only be supplanted by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey at this point, as my overall favorite film of 2012. I saw Prometheus twice in the theater, already pre-ordered the blu-ray, and will certainly be there opening day for Paradise to gloriously soak up the continuing adventures of David 8 and Dr. Elizabeth Shaw.

Awesome news. I really liked Prometheus when I saw it, but it grows on me over time. Kind of movie I want to watch multiple times to see If if can learn anything new. I love that it doesn't shove the entire story down your mouth like a giant buffet. Instead we get tasty little morsels to savor on.
