It's actually $2 more at YesAsia.

amazon Japan with default shipping (EMS I think) also ships way faster than Yesasia w/free shipping. It usually takes a few days for something from Amazon Japan whereas it takes a few weeks from Yesasia (slower processing as well as shipping)

I would sign up for the YesAsia slow boat (from) China free shipping if they offered an appreciable discount vs Amazon. However, $80 is more than I paid for any two box sets I own combined.

Because i saw a full Bluray rip somewhere of this specific release and it says it has English subtitles. (unless it's custom added)

and why isn't this sold in yesasia?
No English subs, just Japanese. However do note that the entire movie is actually in English, so you would only need English subtitles for hard of hearing issues.

Received mine in the mail today. I ordered this along with Arizona Dream. It shipped out late Friday and was here in Bama today at lunch time. No damage, perfect condition and a beautiful overall set this is. I love the slip cover. Shipping is a little high but to get from Japan to Alabama in less than 3 full days and to get here with no damage I'd have to recommend Amazon Japan very highly! I ordered the Kill Bill dvd sets from them in the past and didn't have any complaints then either.

Ok, thanks.
AS i said previously, since English is not my native language i always prefer to read English subtitles, than trying to understand what they're saying.

By the way, does anyone think that this version could come to Western countries too, or this Japan release is our only way to have the original form of the film?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I imagine it would depend on the details of any licensing agreements. It's not inconceivable... Universal also owns the domestic rights to Brazil, for example, but they licensed to Criterion for U.S. release (the "final cut" and "love conquers all" versions, anyway), while still releasing the theatrical cut on blu in the states.

However, it's not encouraging that this cut of Emperor has only been released in one market after all this time, through Geneon.

It almost looks to me that there is a green tint to every screenshot of the Japanese version. Does anyone else see that?

Yes, it's been noted previously in this thread, here and here.

On the other hand, the OAR, lack of gate weave and (to my eyes) fewer motion artifacts make the Geneon the version to have.

I just saw the screenshots of the italian 3D BLuray (i've read that the film was newly restored and converted to 3D).
If it wasn't THAT bright, and was in 2D too, I think this would be the best version available!
The aspect ratio is even better, and also the grain structure seems better with better detail!

Although the colors have changed and it reminds the golden tint of Raiders of the lost Ark, I kind of like it!

But:

TOO BRIGHT!

Do you think that we will see a 2D bluray of this?

Yes, and like all great films it will have random lame shortcomings in order to keep fans buying the next "definitive" release.

I suspect they made it brighter because 3D glasses make everything darker. It looks dreadful.

I love these comments at the German site:

"I had no idea the Sun was that intense in China before the Communists came to power. "

"The 3D Blu-Ray is at least in the correct aspect ratio, but the brightness levels are turned to "Ark of the Covenant" levels. Pass."

It's refreshing, however, to see a second release not in Storaro's butchered 2.0 aspect ratio, and in his home country no less. Maybe he realized he made a hideous mistake cropping the sides off.

Also, it does seem to lose much of the digital noise that plagues both the Japanese disc and the cropped Criterion disc.
