Could be wrong, but for an example The Hunger Games and the soon coming out Prometheus have no normal BD package. I mean I have to buy the digital copy and/or DVD?! And the price is above $20 and more. Not fair.
![]() edit: another one: Jaws (BD and DVD $19.99). How about just the BD? Don't need the DVD anymore Last edited by Spider; 08-29-2012 at 11:19 AM. |

This is why im waiting to jump on the hunger games...you just know in the not too distant future its gonna come down in price.. some things are just worth waiting for to drop in price..
On the other hand, sometimes im just a sucker for new releases (IE Jaws, star wars etc etc ,),bought on release day, |

What happened in America is that the two main retail forces, Walmart and Target, shifted towards using grocery/food items to lure in shoppers. Brick & Mortar electronics stores started collapsing when business shifted to Internet stores like Amazon, forcing Circuity City to go out of business and crippling Best Buy.

I RARELY buy titles on day one anymore... big stuff like Indiana Jones, Avengers, etc, sure... but other than that I wait. Catalog stuff will usually get a decent sale price at BB eventually or I wait for upgrade & save. As for new stuff, between Hastings and Family Video, I can get a slightly used copy of almost every new title for $10 or less within one month. And if they dont play perfectly like new, I can exchange them. ..or in some cases, Hastings even sends me brand new/sealed copies when I order used, like I just got today with Lockout for $7.20.
So yeah, I dont wait long and I still get everything for $10 max, with very few exceptions. Last edited by cinemaphile; 08-29-2012 at 05:42 PM. |

I remember for a couple years that amazon had a lot of new releases for only 14.99 (no coupon required) that streeted during the holiday season. They still occasionally drop some titles that low a month or two after release, even though they're usually just following Best Buy's lead.
Overall, I agree that BD prices seem relatively stable, which isn't a good thing either IMO. The way I see it, studios are using combo packs as a way of keeping the BD premium high, still operating under the impression that most people feel a $5 premium is reasonable for BD - even 6 years into the format and irregardless as to whether or not most of the people surveyed actually buy many movies or were just answering hypothetically - a premium that's worth noting is all too often much higher than $5 at real world retail pricing, even though the difference in actual production costs aren't. Packaged media has often been used as loss leaders and still are. But I don't think it's as prevalent or to the extent that some do. With the internet world, in a recession, it just doesn't work that way anymore. And even if it did, no company could stay in business losing money on that many sales, year after year, after year. Most of these coupon promotions are studio promos. Quote:
