This is in my top 3 on the year...but a rental would be the course I'd recommend, over a blind buy. The accusations of an unfocused, unwieldy nature could be deemed accurate, even if they meld with the themes of the film; and I can see how this could disorient a viewing experience.

It is one of the richest films of the year, so perhaps if one is underwhelmed a rewatch would prove beneficial?

On note of the Oscar noms: I can see how this missed Picture, but it should have been in the Director, Cinematography, Production Design and Original Screenplay categories. At least a couple more of those. Glad to see its showing on the Acting fronts though.

Ditto.

When you go to the actual Amazon page for the Blu Ray it says "usually ships in 1-3 weeks".

Is their system messed up, or has the date actually been moved?

Maybe they were hoping to litter the cover with things like "Nominated for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture" but since that didn't happen, they just pushed the date up.

Shipping 1-3 weeks is a very suspect thing to note. I don't believe it, still thinking the release date is the one stated on Amazon Feb 28. Really wish it would come out sooner though. If anyone finds out anything concrete please post, thanks..

Well I think it's still worth noting that it was nominated for 3 of the 4 acting categories. I think it should have gotten more noms, especially for
score, assuming it was eligible. I also don't understand the lack of a best director nomination, they acknowledge the great performances but not the director behind them, seems a little odd to me. I wouldn't expect it to win best picture, even though I loved it the reviews were very mixed it scored pretty well with critics, but not as good as some of the other nominees and it was pretty poorly received among the general population and since the release was so limited I would bet most of those people were actually seeking the movie out.
Maybe it's just me but I can appreciate great directing even if I don't care for a movie. Either way this is a day one buy for, I've been dying to see it again after I saw it the first day it played in Boston.

Also I noticed amazon has this listed as a two disc version. I assume bd/DVD but it makes no mention of that. Seems that the release is still pretty vague. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a commentary track that I doubt will be on there.

I'm actually a little more baffled by the lack of a cinematography nomination. The film was absolutely gorgeous in 70mm. Not sure how Lincoln managed to be recognized over this. I guess that will be the by-the-numbers winner this year. As great as this movie is at times, it didn't quite gel as well as it should have overall and that's why I'm not surprised by PTA's lack of a director nomination. While Day-Lewis was solid as always in Lincoln, I was absolutely floored by Phoenix in this movie yet somehow I think the odds are against him.

Well, Spielberg is just sooooooooooo great and such an institution of cinema and we just need to pay him his due.

It's as unlikely as anything, but I would really like to see Spielberg get shutout again at the Oscars this year.

The Oscars should go back to just nominating 5 films for best picture. Almost every year there's only one or two films that even have a shot of winning (and the audience usually know this watching it), the others have zero chance.

This, this, this.

We know which films are the legitimate ones. The other nominations feel like they were tossed about randomly.

It's a joke.

Studios and the Academy want you to go out and spend your money seeing these movies in the theater. They have more than 5 Best Picture nominees so they can market how ever many there are by saying "Nominated for Best Picture".. "You have too see this movie", etc.. Just a marketing ploy to make more money.

Amazon's page lists the release date as Feb 26 2012 so I am guessing it's an error due to the typo.

Amazon lists the DVD release date as Feb 26 this year, but says the blu ray ships in 9-14 days. It may indeed be an error, but they could be moving the release date up.

wow! That cover art is awesome! I'm on the fence on picking this up. I saw it in theaters and really enjoyed it but I don't know how many times i'd want to rewatch it.

Doesn't appear to be a slipcover though. Disappointed face.
