I plan on one day watching some of my old VHS tapes for nostalgia sake. Some of them are recorded from TV too, so they'll include those old ads from the 90s :P

How much does a laserdisc player cost?

I was thinking of getting the Star Wars original trilogy laserdiscs from ebay

^ Depends what brand you want... some can still sell for 200+, others can be found for around 20.

I've been looking for a Laserdisc player for a while now too, but I can't seem to find one at a decent price here in Austarila. $20 for a LD player sounds way too good to be true since the few that I have seen online in Austarila cost a lot more then that. I wish their were an easier way to find a decent quality Laserdisc player.

What would you recommend, for someone who just wants a few movies?

My Sony player is pretty good, but I think Pioneer is what the real enthusiasts go for.

Sorry for taking this thread off topic lol there is a laserdisc thread here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=140238

So guys, I'm about to pick up the German steelbook version porting from Germany for $43 in total. The Play.com exclusive does look better but that is selling for crazy prices that I'm not willing to give in to. The German version looks half decent and I know the english track is high resolution, but as long as it plays in english with no problems then that's enough for me. Anyway, I just want to know before committing to the buy, am I getting a reasonable deal? Because I had actuelly argued it down to $43 because its intial pricing was above $60 with shipping included.

I'd like to hear some thoughts from you guys first...

before anyone says why don't jusy buy locally, I just want this on steel so badly even if it is inferior to the Play.com version!

I don't like the play.com version, so it doesn't matter if it's inferior.

What's actually in the booklet? I've read back over this thread and checked jb's site and haven't seen any mention of it. Now that both versions are the same price I'll get the one with slip and book but just curious. Is it any good?

It's got some great production stills, the photo of Sarah Connor, A bit of a bio on Cameron & the Stars, Terminator Trivia, & Tech Noir: The Dark side of Techno.

It really is a very nice little booklet.

I still have my pioneer player with auto reverse function sitting under the stairs in my house. I still have my Star wars saga sets as well. I'll never get rid of them. Maybe one day I'll pull the player out and have a look at those glorious NTSC transfers. I had a stack of movies but traded a lot of them for DVD when it came out. Some of the prints on those discs were just plain awful too. Sliver, comes to mind when I reminisce about those days. That print was like looking through a screen door.

Back on topic, can someone please post a pic of this Terminator package that you're all raving about.

Thanks.

PQ is very good. Now I hope that they can do the same to T2 instead of DNR.

Watched this last night, a spectacle transfer however what ratio would you guys put the teal filtering on in terms of its noticeably?

I'd say about 90% of the time it isn't noticeable. Only for a short time in the car chase scene when the cops eventually catch Reece and Sarah and then bring them in for questioning is when I caught a bit of the teal effect shift.

Would that be because that neon lit place actually looks teal?

Ha, you think the ads are old from the 90's. I've got one from 1986!

Same here. Not that much noticeable but looks like some people have a gifted eyesight to pick up more teal than regular viewers and make a big fuss about it. The teal factor is nowhere near LOTR.
