My local WM had many, many copies of Diamonds are Forever, Octo***** and Goldeneye. I went next door to Best Buy and the kids who were working there had absolutely no idea what I was talking about.

You folks who think OHMSS is an essential Bond I've never understood. What about that film is so priceless to some people? Lazenby is IMO perhaps the worst Bond. An argument could be made that Roger Moore is, but I think Lazenby takes the cake.

Just an opinion, so don't get too upset, but I would like someone to explain this to me.

I believe that if you're looking at essential Bond films, you're talking about all the Connery films and maybe.. MAYBE... a couple of Moore's.

You would think if it were exclusive to Best Buy that they would have all of these internal memos and such to have a head's up. I guess what I hate about Best Buy is how they want to believe that we are the idiots as if the fact that they work there trumps the obsessive nature of our love for Bluray and Bond. Like we are some hillbilly that came in there looking for something that doesn't exist. What is the first thing they did...everybody......point to the new box set. "Oh yeah..I came in for a $9.99 dvd but I guess I will buy the $180 box set since I don't know the difference...and am not particular"

went to three walmarts and no one had a clue about the films they went on the list for the store....

went to 2 targets...all sold out only carrying one copy of each and one target was selling them for 25$ a piece lol rip off

went to best buy and same thing as walmart

if they are gonna be more10$ i am not gonna buy them and just go with box set as it will bealot cheaper to buy all films for 150$ and not 180$ for just the 9 films i don't have and also get the skyfall for free...and sell my bond films i have on blu for 75$

OHMSS is one my favorites because it's one of the more realistic Bond flicks, it has one of the best Bond girls in Tracy, the best Blofeld, terrific action sequences, John Barry's finest Bond score, and the most unique ending of any entry in the series. Even Casino Royale which ended on somewhat of a down note, still had the last scene as a wink to the audience(plus Bond doesn't marry Vesper Lynd).

As for Lazenby's performance, it's flawed to say the least. In part because he was dubbed over for the entire middle act. But he had some terrific moments in the film, particularly with Diana Rigg. And he more than held his own in the fight scenes. It's a shame he quit the series after only one film, cuz he got a lot better in the role as the movie wore on.

Agreed. OHMSS is not just my favorite Bond film, by far, it's one of my top 5 favorite films.

I think it's the most elegantly crafted narrative, with the most interesting and multi-dimensional characters of the whole series. Tracy is the only Bond girl who truly is Bond's equal, no matter how much each new bikini-clad beauty claims to be so. She saves Bond's life multiple times and is also there from the beginning of the film, unlike most Bond girls who only show up at the midpoint, after a first "sacrificial" girl has died. Telly Savalas makes a deliciously evil and clever Blofeld. Bond is more nuanced than usual, and even the crew of supporting characters are strong and memorable.

The score is, to my mind, Barry's masterpiece. The photography is gorgeous, the locations stunning, and the stunts remain impressive 40 years on.

I'll agree Lazenby is not the strongest actor, but he brings an earthy reality the others lack. He seems genuinely physically dangerous. Also, as the others are all stars, or went on to become stars, it's hard not to see Movie Star Sean Connery playing the character of James Bond 007, while Lazenby's anonymity makes the film seem more realistic to me, as if it's about a spy who happens to be named Bond.

I could go on and on - I really do love the film - but I know that trying to convince people to like a film they don't is largely pointless. It's like an atheist and a born again Christian arguing, lol. I'm not trying to convince you at all, just laying out reasons that I happen to like the film.

I'm in western Wisconsin. Local WalMart had all three exclusives at $9.96 each. Target had one each with TND and AVTAK at $9.99 but The Living Daylights was $14.99, which makes no sense. I bought all 3 at WalMart and the two $9.99 titles at Target. Local BB had no clue what I was talking about. Very disappointing but hardly a surprise. After I got home I found out that BB had changed release date to 10/23. That makes no sense at all. They must be trying to milk the Bond 50 set for as many dollars as possible. I really wanted OHMSS but if BB brings it out at a price higher than $9.99, I'll wait for a sale (eventually) either at Amazon or BB.

I'm in S. Carolina and the Bond Exclusives where there on a display with all the other reissued Bond titles. Only problem is they only had 1 copy of the three exclusives, but 3 copies of the re-issued titles... I did not make it to target, and at least now I know BB won't have there's out until 10/23.....

Has anybody watched Goldeneye on blu ray yet? I am hearing reports that the transfer is not that good.

From what I've been hearing the Bond exclusives are only at the Walmart Superstores, which is why many might not be able to get them locally. The WM Superstore near me had these title in bluray:

Golden Eye
The World Is Not Enough
From Russia With Love
Diamonds Are Forever
Live and Let Die
Octopu$$y
Goldfinger
Thunderball
Die Another Day

Oddly, they seemed to have some other titles like You Only Live Twice and Moonraker in DVD only.

Bizarre marketing technique by MGM/Fox.

The transfer on Goldfinger looked pretty darn good, while Thunderball looked a little soft, but definitely better than the DVD version. Those are the only two I've viewed, so far. It's also nice that the blurays contain all the extra bonus material that the special release DVDs contained.

I found mine at a regular walmart, not a super store.

My online order for the BB Bond exclusives is showing shipped so that would appear to be a good sign that they are coming out when expected.

Quite a few were able to find them in store yesterday! There is a bit of chatter in the deals forum about it.

Definitely a steal @ $4.99 each after the upgrade and save.

So far there has been jack squat about them. It will be in tomorrow's ad, and we'll see if its mentioned on any of the Anderson or chalk talk memos. The only thing mentioned so far is the "street date" mistake. (not a street date as much as an internal merchandising date) Many stores may put them out tomorrow instead of Tuesday. But so far, the only place I have found talking about exclusives is on this forum.
As far as the actual Best Buy/Walmart employees, I would expect them to know next to nothing about these things.

What's exclusive about these other than where they are sold?

Is there an advantage to buying the individual movies over the Bond 50?

No difference in content. The Bond 50 set includes a bonus disc and slot for when Skyfall is released.

I've had time to sample both THE SPY WHO LOVED ME and ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE on BLu-ray now. I bought both on Friday via ordering on web and in-store pickup. Both look very good. SPY especially looks fabulous--the horrendous edge-enhancement that marred first half of the UE DVD is gone. The image is very detailed and the colors are accurate and strong--it overall looks very accurate to the source which is all one could ask for. In many ways it felt like I was watching the movie for the first time. I haven't listened to the film through my surround setup yet so i can't comment on that yet.

MAJESTY also looks great, though contrast is a lower to the point of being noticeable. However, on my set whites are NOT blown out as seen in the capsaholic captures here. While contrast is lower, the detail in the snow is still there and visible. Take this as you will.

I do wish they had converted the documentaries to HD and continued to offer textless titles. I can understand somewhat why the documentaries were not done--it would cost money--but can't believe that the title sequences would have cost anything.

Also, on a related note, while digital smoothing is indeed rampant on the new GOLDENEYE Blu, it still looks MUCH better than the DVD and is very watchable.

WalMart had its three exclusives and Best Buy is getting its on Tuesday (with moviebucks for "Skyfall"). My problem is Target. I haven't seen its three, they're not listed in the system and the staff have no idea what I'm talking about. All they have is "Licence to Kill." I heard a rumor on one board that Target pulled its three off the shelves and put out at a different time, but I don't know if that's true or not. Any thoughts or suggestions?

AmazingRando offered this advice to me on another thread. It's only regarding The Living Daylights, but I imagine if they can find this in your store, they should be able to find the others.

I also had to go back because they charged me $14.99 on release day, two weeks later I got them to refund $5.29 to match the current price.
This worked for me as far as getting the Living Daylights but I didn't try to get the other two. Just make sure you tell them the DPCI number 058370715. Good luck!

EDIT: maybe someone else who got all three could look at their receipt and provide you the other DPCI numbers.
