The UK comes through again. They have what appears to be a smaller more shelf-friendly sized James Dean UCE, and even better it's only $32 Shipped. The only downside here is the DVD's will be region 2.

I pre-ordered the UK collection yesterday. IMO, if you already have the SE DVDs of these 3 films (like I do) AND you weren't going to buy the UCE (I wasn't), then the UK version is a no brainer for $32. I'll just keep my old SE's if and when I want to revisit the special features. And you'll get blu rays of 3 classic films for less than $11 apiece. For a cheapskate like me, that is too good of a deal to pass up. The original SE DVDs have more than enough special features for me. You won't miss much new material except, of course, for the 3 feature length documentaries.

The collectors edition is up for pre-order in India as well. The edition is similar to what UK is getting. As to the poster query in the description it reads - 3 mini reproductions of the original theatrical movie posters.

Post refers to the U.S. editions only!!!
To be on the safe side and so as to lock in the lowest possible pre-order price, I made two separate orders on Amazon. First order containing the UCE and the second order containing all 3 of the James Dead DigiBooks (East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant.) While I do love a DigiBook, it appears that the individual releases of these films will not contain the feature-length documentaries. If I am wrong on that then please do let me know. However, my first question is in regards to the UCE, it is listed as a 9-disc set (6 bluray's and 3 dvd's) while the individual DigiBooks are listed as only containing 1 bluray each. Now by process of elimination it is clear that 3 of the 6 bluray discs in the set are reserved for the films themselves. And the 3 dvd's within the UCE surely are for the 3 feature-length documentaries (James Dean: Sense Memories, James Dean: Forever Young, and George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey.) Now if that is all correct then the question remains, what are the remaining 3 bluray discs within this set? More bonus features? Or perhaps the 3 dvd's are actually for the various bonus features and the previously listed feature-length documentaries will appear on the 3 additional bluray discs? Please feel free to correct any mistakes on this or confirm my theories regarding the discs. Also just to point out, the image available showcasing the contents of the UCE only appears to have 7 discs in the photo as opposed to the advertised 9-discs that this set is apparently housing. So if anyone has any insight or can clarify this I'd appreciate it. I am ultimately torn as to which way I want to go, the DigiBooks each apparently contain 32-pages of memorable photos, original posters, and information about the film and its production. If that is the case you are talking about 96 pages in total that would make up the DigiBooks. However, then there is the UCE which is advertised as containing a 40-page hardcover book. If this book made available through the UCE is merely a compilation of some of what is being offered in the DigiBooks, then you're essentially missing out on some of the info as someone who grabs the DigiBooks. Question here is whether or not this book solely focuses on James Dean himself and his life outside of Hollywood or if it combines some of the information that ultimately is being used to create the individual DigiBook releases? If that is so then it would appear that whichever way a consumer chooses to go (DigiBook or UCE) in the end you are still missing something that someone else has. Unless you go ahead and grab both the 3 DigiBooks and the UCE lol. The UCE is a no-brainer if it is the only way in which I can obtain the feature-length documentaries. As someone who has studied film and been in love with the field ever since I was a child, these additional extras are a must-see for me. I love that era of Hollywood. Anyway thank you for reading and my apologies if any of my inquiries have already been answered on a previous page or thread, tried reading through all of the comments but most were in regards to the U.K. edition and price lol. Looking forward to any helpful replies, thank you all again! |
