It has to have been modified by the seller or third-party. Manufacturers aren't allowed to make region free players since it's against the terms and conditions of the BD license.

Im in Italy and dont want a big customs hit. Granted, I got a ps3 a while back from them, but didnt get hit. But that was shipped and sold exclusively by amazon. Will I be safe ???

Could I get a Panny DMP-BD77EB-K from the UK and play it in the US as my region B player? Would the wiring work if I change the plug or is there more too it than that?

According to the Panasonic UK website the Power Supply is AC230-240V, 50Hz.

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_G...trackInfo=true

You need a player that says the power supply is AC110-240V, 50/60HZ. Our power is 110, 60Hz, in Europe it's 230-240, 50Hz. And yes, the plugs are different, so any player you import from the UK/EU you'd have to cut off the odd shaped 3 prong plug and connect the 2 prong plug we use. They other problem you'll have in importing a player is that a licensed, authorized dealer won't ship it to the US or Canada because that's a violation of their license agreement for that brand, they're only authorized to sell within the country. Small sellers, like Amazon UK third party sellers would likely ship it to you, but not Amazon UK itself.

There's an imported Samsung BD1500 region B player for sale in the Home Theater trading forum.

Thanks for the info Duke! I did try to order from amazon.uk directly and run it just before checkout to see if they would send it, but you're right, they won't. Will have a look at that LG player and others and see what I can find.

Of course those codes aren't published thus you'd have to find a player where someone has already discovered and published the code.
How can i do that to make my Region B Panasonic Blu ray player play Region A Blu rays?
Is there a code to use or pressing a series of buttons? Just any way to make it play Region A?

Just received a mail from rattlebyte.com
He's just finished his Pioneer BDP150 region free chip. It's a DIY kit and involves advanced soldering skills.
Future firmware upgrades are possible albeit a bit complicated. But it's the cheapest option I've seen so far: €35/$46/£29 including shipping.
For more info, check rattlebyte.com

Check the thread on the Insignia players in the forums. I picked up a refurb model from Best Buy last year for around 60 bucks.

Well I would like something better than an Insignnia. It would be nice if it did Netflix with 5.1 sound that doesn't lock up often.

try jvbdigital
The kits are some times easy to fit, but not likely to be solder free like oppo. They have presence in Europe and USA

I currently have an LG region free blu-ray player (can't remember the model #), and I can play my Region 2 DVD's just fine. It's just that the region locked blu-rays won't play at all on the player (I ordered that Arrow Blu-ray of George A Romero's Knightriders, and I can't play the blu-ray, but I can play the DVD just fine.)

I kinda would like to stick to LG, but if there is a region free blu-ray player that could play region locked blurays from around the world with no problem, I would purchase one!

I looked at World-Import.com, is that a good website???

I bought an all regions LG BD player from World-Import. The buying experience was pleasant enough in that my order was filled and the player was shipped promptly. Unfortunately, though, it was down hill from there. Early on the player would lock up on the Hello screen with the result that the initial menu wouldn't come up, which meant that the player wouldn't play any discs from anywhere, To make matters worse, the only to clear the fault and start over was to unplug the player and then plug it up again. Finally, I couldn't get the player to get beyond the Hello screen no matter what I did. I sent it in to World-Import's repair center in Miami, FL twice and it was returned to me twice with assurances that it had been repaired. It hadn't. When I called for a third authorization, which I also made during the player's warranty, World-Import told me that in fact they hadn't been able to find anything wrong either the first or second time so they refused to either repair or repair it. Needless to say, I recommend to you in the strongest terms that you stay far, far away from World-Import. I wish I had.

I had a Sharp, but it made a helluva racket and I could not get the signal thru the HDMI cord unless I unhooked the cord from the player and hooked it back up everytime I wanted to use it, so I returned it.
I than got a Panasonic off of Ebay (that also does 3D) about two months ago and I am very happy with it.

This thread has been quiet for a while now but as I was looking for a region free blu ray player for a friend I'd thought I'd add my thoughts.

Back in 2001 I had a Pioneer DVD player from the US that was modified for all region playback. It was 110V 60Hz. I found a transformer for it and never had any problems. Good transformers needn't cost a lot, check the power consumption for your player and if you double that for the transformer output power you should be ok. If you overload the transformer it will overheat and most likely cut out.

If you aren't fussy I think the seperate Region A and B players are the way to go.

I'm now in the US more than the UK and I bought a Sony blu ray 'megachanger' cheap ($600 instead of $1900) as they were being discontinued. I wish I'd bought two as they sell for silly money now. Thats region A only although for $600 or so they will modify it for region free playback. As the Sony doesn't have 3D capability I bought the Oppo 103 instead along with a plug in region free mod.

All blu ray region free modifications require some button pushing. I can never remember how to do it and need to keep the instructions nearby. Having two players solves that problem.

I've seen blu ray players at Walmart for $50-60, do some research. If you don't have a friend in the US that's willing to help, send me a message and if I can help I will. I appreciate UK customs is a pain but the $ is weak against the £ right now so it couldn't be a better time to buy.

***Growly*** You can't remember the region change procedure for a blu-ray mod!!!

The one you have now is a good bit of xxxxxxxxxxx about

Rather than print out the instructions to attach to the player, which can't cost that much, you buy another player, just what planet are you on???

Most of them from stand by just press A/B/C on the player remote
