My thoughts exactly.

But it won't be a Bond movie from the first 50 years. Don't be confusing your guests now.

Cameras have lines on the viewfinder so cameramen can "frame" Scope movies when shooting

Yes, but they don't have to use the same frames in post-production.

Maybe not, but these days every damn BD release is bloated as it is with redundant discs of the movie on DVD and digital copy and whatnot, why add yet another copy, especially one that is not what the film makers want you to watch?

I'm sorry, please try again.

Sam Mendes says that IMAX is the best way to watch movies -- and not just ones that he directed. Moreover, the IMAX version was overseen by Mendes and Roger Deakins.

So you have an IMAX screen at home, then?

IMAX editions like Tron Legacy and TDK look pretty spectacular on my 140inch screen.
It's not just about screensize. What's more important is the screen size to seating distance ratio.

I don't understand why you're against choice.

3D suffers a lot with scope IMO. It's not about filling up my screen if that's what you're thinking. An increase in height makes 3D more immersive. Even if had a CIH setup, I would still prefer 3D in 1.78:1 .

That is an ignorant question. Like srinivas1015 wrote, the Screen Size to Seating Distance Ratio is the key factor. People with projectors can generate a viewing area that is much larger than that of most TVs.

I like the idea of getting both versions, so I can compare & choose which one I like the best. I saw it in 2.4. Not liking the IMAX version example that shows Bond's gun being almost cropped off. That just looks wrong.

Yeah I also prefer 3D films in open-matte like Avatar. Prometheus has fantastic 3D but I sometimes wonder how much better it'd look with a taller aspect ratio like it had in IMAX.

But since Skyfall wasn't even in 3D, nor was it shot with actual IMAX cameras... I don't care that much about the aspect ratio. It didn't add a whole lot(though the size of the screen and the sound quality was very impressive in IMAX) to the experience.
Of course, I'm all for options and choices and I'd gladly purchase an open-matte version of Skyfall.

So was the 35mm version, which the film was actually framed for.

This isn't a "do or die" situation. Both can be released on Blu-ray in a variety of configurations.

Option A:
Both 1.90:1 and 2.39:1 versions in one package.

Option B:
2.39:1 by itself.

Option C:
1.90:1 by itself.

Either Option A or Options B and C together would give buyers the maximum amount of choices.

Look at what happened with previous "IMAX presentation" movies.

People who didn't like alternating aspect ratios hated the way that The Dark Knight and Tron: Legacy were presented on Blu-ray. (Presumably, they're complaining about The Dark Knight Rises, too.)

People who wanted alternating aspect ratios were saddened by Paramount's decision to go with a constant 2.39:1 ratio for Mission Impossible -- Ghost Protocol.

Paramount actually gave us Options B and C with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (separate 2.39:1 and 1.78:1 releases), satisfying all segments of the movie's fans.

Regardless, the movie was FRAMED for 2.39:1 then safe framed for 1.90:1. After seeing the IMAX version, which had tons of wasted headroom in just about every shot, I'd go with the real framing for any future viewing.

No one is stopping you from enjoying the 2.39:1 version.

I'm against choice because the IMAX version was created specifically for IMAX only and does not belong on your TV screen.
