Hm, Interesting. I wish the compression for my Youtube videos were this good. Lol

So, you must absolutely despise Planet Earth then, right?

This is the one that drives me nuts, when I hear it being called a reference disc!

I think your expectations are a bit unrealistic then, because I just watched Avatar again, and while I don't like the movie much, nor the digital look it has, the PQ is almost flawless to my eyes.

Edit: I was just browsing the screencaps here, and the images do look rather processed. I haven't watched it in a long time, and I guess the sound helps a lot too, and the fact that this is a rather unique film. I will try to watch it asap, and report back on my findings.

What do you think of Gladiator, the remastered edition, of course?

What are your reference discs, besides Casino Royale, which I don't have?

I am really looking forward if Samsara can deliver the goods!

Don't get me wrong Baraka is very, very good but could be stunning.

Gladiator remastered is stunning.
There are loads of titles i would say are reference one of my favorites being Se7en.

Yes, Se7en looks superb.

That grab from Baraka, specfically those scenes look awful. I have to agree that Baraka isn't as good as it should be. I cannot see this being purely down to the transfer, rather it being down to what they did in the remaster process. I doubt that it will be touched again.

All I say is bring on Samsara!

Well, this I can agree with completely. It's also got the old VC-1 codec, so there is definitely room for improvement.

Gladiator is probably my favorite, as it's so filmic and detailed, and the production design, landscapes, etc. all together make this one into a fantastic experience.

You tease.

Anymore? Are those from your own copy? If so, what are the specs.

Thanks!

Is the AR 2.39:1 or 2:20:1? I assume its an MPEG-4 AVC encode?

You should come over to my place. It looks pretty darn spectacular 95% of the time.

I would love to see what it looks like on your display.
Problem is, it doesn't look as spectacular as it should. There are 35mm films that look more detailed. That should not be.

Samsara seems to do justice to its 65mm origins, however...

Of course, I can understand your reasoning because that shot was more powerful than any simulated violence I've ever seen on film simply because I knew it was real.
I know you are right but I am not comfortable with watching a dead old corpse for real. I love gory flicks a lot. Believe me I have seen every movie in the book which even made people throw away and I was fine but like I said I knew its all simulated but when it comes to the real thing I cant digest and even without watching any blood etc I cant digest the slaughtering scenes etc.

I know what you mean, it's totally different when it's *real*

Even though I look forward to seeing it again, I do dread to a certain degree, reaching that moment because it's emotionally heartbreaking to see images like that and know they're real.
