Strangely this is now back up at Amazon to pre-order again. With the same 4th/March date as before.

This is the reply I received from MGM:

Yes apologies, this will now be released later in the year (date TBC). Please make a note to email me again in August.

And thank goodness for that. I didn't want to wait until October for this. Let the US release come out later (to coincide with the remake), just like the other Fox discs.

If they decide to jettison the serious emotional content and cut fast to the prom sequence, 3D could actually work very well for this movie. Imagine the pig's blood shower and Carrie's subsequent telekinetic blow-up in 3D

I like the cover. I hope this IS a better transfer. Being MGM/Fox, this should be Region Free, right?

No it wasn't - it was classified 15. The 12 certificate didn't exist in 1984. It was 15 in the cinema and 15 on video. The first film to ever get a 12 was Tim Burton's Batman in 1989.

You're absolutely right, and I know that Batman was the first 12, so I feel extra stupid. I was getting it confused with Gremlins 2 as that and Batman Returns are two from my childhood that I remember getting the bump up from 12 to 15 (and being confused when the videos were a higher certificate).
