Lionsgate to convert selected titles to 3D

I do like quality conversions like Titanic and Avengers but something tells me that this is going to be the 3D equivalent to Lionsgate pointlessly upmixing 5.1 tracks to 7.1 and 11.1 . If it's framed for and filmed with 3D in mind, that's one thing. But a studio converting a movie to 3D just for the sake of it leads to crappy 3D most of the time.

Could not agree with you more. I know 3D can make a bad movie better...but Bangkok Dangerous??!!!?? Only way that movie can have a better viewing experience is by going straight to the end credits or by not pushing ''play'' on the remote....which the latter is probably the better option,lol

The Decent could benefit a lot from it, the rest are meh & worse to begin with....

The insanely fast editing in Crank is going to be utterly useless in 3D!

From the Yahoo News article:
"The home entertainment market is ripe for a premium technology like 3D, and consumers have consistently demonstrated their willingness to pay for added value," Jim Packer, Lionsgate's President of Worldwide Television and Digital Distribution, said in a statement. If by "Best" they mean they're going to make sure the 3D is medium to strong 3D, then I'm aboard. But it has to use Titanic's 3D as it's template, the goal to strive for with their conversions. Titanic with strong 3D most of the way.

I like the stat about 6.4 million homes with 3DTVs. That's more than I imagined if you compare 3D to the PS1 back when that was getting started in the video game market. I know not everyone with a 3DTV uses it for 3D, but that's still nice to see.

The Descent was a cool monster horror movie. Anyone have a listing of Lion's Gate's film properties of potential conversions?

Of them, I'd most like to see converted to strong 3D, the following:
Devil's Rejects in 3D
The Descent in 3D
RAMBO in 3D. Heck yeah. My number 1 pick for a conversion.
Transporter 3 in 3D
Safe in 3D
The Expendables 2 (and even 1) in 3D (this would be awesome if it's strong 3D)

Upcoming:
Leprechaun in 3D (reboot)
Dead Island in 3D (based on the game)

I'd love to see more 3D horror, and Lionsgate loves them some horror movies.

I wouldn't mind seeing The Eye, Stir of Echoes (That floating chair scene!), Jacob's Ladder, or The Haunting in Connecticut in 3D.

(For that matter, I wouldn't be too surprised if The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia gets a conversion for theatres as part of this.)

Yes, Cabin Fever, Stir of Echoes both in 3D I'd watch again.

I haven't seen KickAss yet, but hear there will be a sequel.

Haunting in GA in 3D I'd probably see in theaters if it happens. The documentaries from the "A Haunting" series are better than the movies, (at least the Haunting in CT), but these could be effective for 3D horror.

I'd love for a studio to bring out Kubrick's The Shining in strong 3D. I doubt Kubrick would have allowed it though if he was still around since 1999.

God could you imagine the hayters outcrys of BLASPHEMY!!!!

I actually agree, I think all the hotel interiors would look amazing in 3D and it would really add to the film like it did to Titanic.

Kick-Ass would be great! And I hate to say it, but they should've filmed The Hunger Games in 3d in the first place. I'm honestly tired of all these "great" filmakers being so snobby and timid about 3d. Seriously, please just try and embrace it and if you don't like it, THEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE IT! SHEESH

The problem with the first HG film was the frankly SHODDY and CHEAP CGI effects!

I think they'd look even cheaper in 3D unfortunately.....

The Punisher: War Zone has a scene with great potential for 3D. The upside-down gunplay from the chandelier with bullets falling towards the screen.

I actually think War-Zone is one of the best Marvel movies, in terms of staying true to the character. It's just blind justice but that's more or less what The Punisher's about.

How about they get around to releasing the 3D titles they are sitting on like AstroBoy 3D before worrying about converting.

Don't get me wrong I will buy all these conversion re releases, but its just agravating that they are just sitting on 3D titles that played theatricaly in 3D.

Astro Boy was not a 3D theatrical release. Though the trailer was shown in 3D on a Panasonic demo disc. As far as I know there's not even any proof they actually re-rendered the whole movie.
