I don't necessarily want to speak for anybody else, but I'm not buying DVD's AND Blu-rays of movies I don't have. I only buy blu-rays now. In other words, I figure Transformers will be on Blu-ray someday. So I haven't bought it on DVD. So Paramount loses Lo-Def and/or Hi-Def money from my household. So my question is, how many other blu households are like mine? How many other movies will be left on the shelves because of their corrupt short-sited business practices?

You know, I can't wait to see one of Spielberg's movies on blu-ray beat the Transformers numbers. That would be good times.

Yeah. Best Buy is #1 in HD media sales in the U.S. 90,000 may well be right.

I'm the same way, I wish I had started doing this earlier, because, I already have the departed on DVD, and now that I'm into BD do I want to spend another $30 to it in HD? as for the HD-DVD studios that are losing out on my money as well as other BD other BD users money I'm sure.

Most of it's about Paramount's inflated numbers relating to Transformers, but one line at the bottom made my stomach sink:

"At first only Universal was exclusively HD-DVD, but then Paramount and DreamWorks Animation came onboard in mid-August. Will Warner be far behind?"

I hope to God she doesn't know something I don't.
There's a difference between a talking head reading breaking news (the Paramount crap) that was given to her to read, and making an uneducated guess about Warner.

Just like the "estimate" that Toshiba made that only 20% of PS3 owners use it to play BDs.

I am the same way. It's either on Blu-Ray or I don't buy it.

Here's a funny story. I was offered FOR FREE an advance copy of the Transformers DVD by someone from this forum with "connections". I thanked this person and was appreciative of thinking of me, but also told this person to give it to someone else who would appreciate it.

Like I said, it's on Blu or it doesn't get my money. Sure, I do have a large DVD collection of movies not available on Blu that I do watch. All I'm saying is that no more DVDs are being added to my collection, only Blu.

If Transformers did that badly and that's all that Paramount has to offer, I have one question:

When does Paramount's contract w/HD-DVD end??

Excellent point.

You know, today I was on Amazon. I bought a book for $17. I had $8 to go for the free shipping. It crossed my mind that I could find a cheap dvd to fill that gap. I ended up buying Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison CD. The moral of the story is...I just can't bring myself to buy dvds anymore.

It's blu-ray or no way.

Of course, that increase in numbers would probably also stretch to Blu as well so it's neither here nor there for the overall fight between HD DVD and Blu-ray.

1) one of the main reasons that wal mart accounts for so much, is that $5.00 bin that is filled with actually decent titles. IE Terminator 2 Extreme edition.

2) Not all walmarts carry BDs. Around the DC area... most dont carry ANY new titles. And most have maybe...5-20 discs total(not different titles, discs) at the bottom of the PS3 case(with the bookend out, not face out)

So there is no way... NO WAY, that walmart accounts for 40% of disc sales. I am surprised the selection is so sparse around here. THis is a pretty large, wealthy, technology heavy area

Why bother with DVD once you go HD? I'll easily admit that cable HD isn't the same as either HD DVD or BD, but hey, it's better than DVD. Considering my movie backlog as it is, I can (and have been) wait for things to come onto my format of choice. Anything that doesn't I can just view as part of my cinemaxhd or hbohd channels. Or even, dare I say, UniversalHD. I stopped buying DVDs back in January 05 since I wanted to have a good recent catalog to choose from when the format launched in 06. Worked out pretty well in my mind. Caught up on some DVDs, got some great looking BDs to watch. And though some are catalog in a sense, they're new to me.

Just like Transformers will be someday. Either via cinemax or BD.

Wow, 89K... thats horrible. Add that to the fact that the HDDVD AACS was broke and TF is now on the internet(found out from AVS forum)

< 100K TF sold + Broken AACS + TF piracy = PooPoo for Paramount

I think the best part is that they've most likely pissed Warner off...

It was even mentioned in the Insiders thread that Warner is not happy about Paramount trying to claim beating 300 and it turning out to be total crap...

most wal-marts didnt have a big supply of this as hddvd doesnt sell, so lets say each store got 5 copies x 4000 stores and actually sold them thats about 20,000 more, still doesnt help prove the #

Look at the title of the article:

This link needs to be posted over on AVS.

The link to the article and the Nielsen numbers were already posted in the AVS "Nielsen VideoScan sales ratios & top sellers part 3' thread by Grubert.

Not a whole lot of nibbles on that information yet. Rather then argue the numbers, one poster is pushing that Blu-ray is trending an overall loss in market share by quoting the sale ratios for Transformers and Heroes weeks.

If this keeps up, pretty soon the schools and universities will have to start offering "HD-DVD Math and Statistics 101" (ie. "one point difference between 51% and 49%") so that everyone can use numbers to support something that isn't.
