I don't see the points in steelbooks. I only like the fact that they don't use the BBFC (UK) logos. I like slipcovers but I hate when the corners become slightly worn.

I do, but only if I like the movie. For examle a lot of movies play.com released were on my wishlist but I wasn't going to buy them anytime soon, as soon as they annonced a steelbook version for them I ordered straight away.

I'd never buy a movie I dislike though just for premium packaging.

Sometimes I'm more curious to check a movie out if it has nice packaging or interesting cover art. I'm a fan of the Scream Factory covers , but still won't buy them if I haven't seen it or the trailer doesn't sell me on it.

Yeah, that's a pretty good example. I ordered a bunch of Blue Underground titles during the infamous Demetrious sale and while I didn't buy any solely because of the cover there were a few where the covers were 'ehhhhhhh, what the hell' tie-breakers.

Kino's Redemption covers are kind of like that too.

I've not purchased titles because of the packaging, and paid for custom slipcovers for other titles because of lackluster packaging.

Not on packaging alone. However, if I am looking to purchase a film that's one of my favorites I will typically hunt down the best packaging, which is

1) Digibook
2) Steelbook
3) Slipcover

in that order.

No! I have to want the film in order to consider special packaging for it.

That being said, I will upgrade packaging and double-dip to get a good film in a nice steelbook case though.

I wouldn't buy a movie I had no interest in for the packaging alone; however on the other side of that I'd be hesitant to buy a movie I was interested in if its packaging was crap.

The recent Frankenweenie release was a big disappointment for me, because I quite enjoy the lenticular slipcover designs that Disney has been coming out with for their 3-D Blu-Ray releases (I don't buy them just for that reason; I own a 3-D TV and I don't buy 3-D movies I'm not interested in just 'cuz they're lenticular), but Frankenweenie was released everywhere except US Best Buy stores with a non-lenticular slip, which was pretty annoying.

Had Best Buy Canada received stock of it I wouldn't have minded, but in the end I had to go to eBay to find a copy. It's a gorgeous slipcover, but I'm still a bit annoyed at Disney for allowing something that's been standard up to now to become a retailer exclusive for this release; as well as at Best Buy for being too lazy to bother getting this exclusive to its Canadian stores.

Disney's 3-D Blus are expensive enough; the least they can do is give us a consistently high-quality package.

Yes and no.

Almost everything I buy is a 'blind buy'. I do read about the movie and check if it is something I might be interested in. And then I decide which version to buy. If there is a nice version, for example a steelbook edition, I buy the steelbook edition in stead of the regular edition.

I got Iron Man 2 because of the slip. Didn't hurt that it was during U&S & I had a $5 certificate & I liked the movie more the 2nd time I watched it a week before I bought it. I honestly don't think I would have bought it if I didn't see the slip.

I'm also going to buy Safe House G2 steelbook this week. Thought that was a really good movie & I've been waiting for the price to go down at BBY. It hasn't so I might as well spend $20+ on the steel rather than the regular case.

When they are cheap enough and when it makes that much of a difference to me, I have replaced a movie or two (DVD more than Blu) for packaging I thought was better. DVD examples include Warner re-issuing snap title cases in keep cases.

Right now I'm hoping to find someone who would rather have the old digipak of Bottle Rocket to trade for the newer standardized Criterion packaging.

The only title that I can say I've done that with has been the BestBuy steelbook for Snow White & the Huntsman. I really liked the steelbook and it was a blind buy... I could've just saved the money though as I didn't think the movie was that good

Why not buy the replacement packaging from Criterion for $5.00?

I don't understand slip covers. Love steelbooks, but I toss the slips as soon as the shrink wrap comes off.
