As for Bond 24, I wouldn't mind Mendes coming back, but I just hope they add a bit more color into the film, literally. I'm really tired of films look so drab - all washed out colors or teal/orange. It's not just Skyfall either.

I thought they. It was called Quantum of Solace.

Several bits of "winking" in that one too. (e.g.,
[Show spoiler]the bizarre Goldfinger homage with Strawberry Fields covered in oil in the same pose as Shirley Eaton covered in gold paint
)

Yeah I have to agree with most of these. Skyfall is a good movie and well made movie but, the plot sucks. It doesn't even come close to Casino Royale.

I'm glad I'm not the only one here who had an issue with how drab Skyfall looked. It looked devoid of colour, unlike CR which was a beautiful looking film. That said, the only colourful part in Skyfall was Shanghai, which did look great.

I enjoyed Skyfall as a whole, even if some of the plot elements were a bit coincidental as mentioned like the
[Show spoiler]train crash sequence.
As for the bit about
[Show spoiler]attacking M at the meeting, I feel that Silva's revenge was personal in nature and he wanted her to know that she wasn't safe anywhere, even in a guarded Parliament building. This would have given her a feeling of dread knowing this.
As for the final act it does seem a bit anticlimactic but I liked the idea of Bond going
[Show spoiler]back to his roots to fight on his terms. If your house isn't your safe area, what is?

Now, let's get back to Bond 24. I liked the Mendes/Deakins combination quite a bit and I'd like a bit of continuity in the series as was done in the past with John Glen and Guy Hamilton and the like. If you have a good group making these films, why change it up for the sake of doing something different? Ever since Goldeneye there has been a different director for each movie save for Campbell making Casino in addition to Goldeneye and that makes the tone a bit inconsistent for my tastes. I think they have set up a traditional Bond movie for Bond 24 so I think one should be made, although with more of a focus on character development as compared to previous efforts.

That Honest Trailers crap, and everything like it, springs from one thing - it being cool to hate what everyone else rather enjoys. Damn hipsters.

I watched Goldfinger last night and the transfer was great looking! Connery was pretty good.

All right, since this has reverted back to the "bash Skyfall" thread, here I go:

Roger Deakins' Oscar nomination disagrees with you.

No gimmicks that provide the illusion of character depth (e.g., the "green brash" Bond, the "vengeful over his girlfriend-for-a-week" Bond, the "does he still have it / Heathcliff on the moors" Bond). When did Connery ever ponder over his orphan days during Goldfinger? That's just fodder for a game of Trivial Pursuit, not the basis for a Bond screenplay.

As I wrote, Craig is fine, and I thought the first hour of Skyfall was excellent. Then it got "personal" (an absolute cliche in an action screenplay). Let him go after the glowing suitcase from Pulp Fiction and leave the mommy issues for a "very special episode of Blossom."
Oh come off it. I want a return to classic Bond as much as anybody and I think we're going to get it with the next one but it's been fun watching them shake up the formula lately. Frankly these "gimmicks" needed to be done after Die Another Day.

Also, Judi Dench's failing eyesight and advanced age pretty much necessitated her character being written out of the series. They did a great job with giving her an emotional sendoff by making her last movie all about her. I just wish they had done the same for Desmond Llewelyn but his final scene was admittedly executed very well.

I've got problems with Skyfall but the cinematography was stunning. Beautifully shot.

Of course the movie looks amazing. The framing and movement was superb. I just wish directors would stop being scared of introducing some vivid colors to their palate. The Shanghai sequence was nice though, but aside from that, the colors tend to be very dull. This is a problem with the majority of films, not just Skyfall.

Yeah, I mean I like how it was shot in terms of framing. No shaky cam was brilliant, as was the
[Show spoiler]fight between Bond and the assassin in Shanghai.
Mendes showed us the whole fight, no frantic Greengrass/Megaton chopping.

My problem is the lack of colours. Maybe it was the cinema I was in and it will look more vivid on my TV? but I just felt the whole thing (minus Shanghai) was bland and gloomy. It was more like TWINE and less like Casino Royale.

There wasn't much to reach for. I love Javier Bardim as an actor, but his character was pretty lame. Not even the Joker could carry out such elaborate and precise plans. I loved it for the set up for the next Bond, hopefully we'll get a more traditional Bond next time.

The hype for the movie Skyfall, is equal to it's theme song.
Both are cheesy.
Both include homages to older Bond films/themes to mask the cheese.
They're not the best Bond song/film, but they're certainly not the worst.
Both are overrated.
And on a side note, Adele sounds like a frog.

Oh come on! The Oscars, or any accolade, are totally invalid in an argument. The fact that you use a corrupt, and irrelevant organization, as leverage says more about you than the people you're arguing against.

It saddens me that The Oscars, or The Grammys (especially the Grammys) are viewed as a seal of approval when they just pander to generic, mainstream audiences.

Hipster alert!

Also, way to derail the thread by barging in, taking a shit on everything Skyfall related, then slinking away w/o addressing the OP.

Generic clone with a conditioned "taste" for media, controlled by the media, alert!

See how easy it is to make generalized statements? Look at my movie collection, I have A LOT of mainstream films that would disqualify me from being a summed up as a "hipster". Your movie collection has some obscure, and overlooked films that disqualify you from being labeled as a "generic clone"...so let's stop with the labels.

All I'm saying is that it is unfair, and unwise, to hold award ceremonies in such high regard. Speak for yourself, don't let controlled ceremonies do the speaking for you.

Honest Trailers is like an even dumber Red Letter Media.
