Expect a quick sellout with all the US and other overseas orders they will get.

Thanks for the notification .

Pre-ordered. My all time favorite movie since I was 8 years old (10 years now ), so I'll definitely order more copies and store them in a safe for future generations .

Like you I was brought up on The Great Escape and Where Eagles Dare. Think because they were on TV so much when I was young. Two of my top 5 films.

Are you also around 18 years old? Where Eagles Dare, Kelly's Heroes, The Great Escape, The Longest Day, The Guns of Navarone, The Eagles Has Landed, Das Boot, The Bridge at Remagen, The Bridge on the River Kwai, A Bridge Too Far, Von Ryan's Express, Battle of the Bulge etc.

are all great classic war movies, I have all of them in my DVD collection (I am in the process of adding all my DVD's to the blu-ray.com database).

Great movies (not all historically accurate though). I miss the times I was watching those movies on a cold, rainy Friday night... .

I've actually never seen this classic. Yes, yes, I know, where have I been, but there is a reason.

I've been studying WW2 for almost a decade now, and I've focused mostly on the Axis side, especially the German Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine etc. As a result I've gone off many WW2 films told from the Allied side, as I consider them propogandistic and simplistic, not giving the viewer all the facts etc. This is of course unfair in many circumstances; many films give a fair, balanced portrayal of both sides, but I'm always weary of giving war films a chance as a result of this dilemma.

My question; is The Great Escape a propoganda film? I don't expect it is and I'm already hovering over that pre-order button since the steel looks so nice...

Edit: Ah what the Hell, only £13.50 on Sainsbury's with my discount. Why not! Pre-ordered.

No, I don't consider this movie a Propaganda Film.
[Show spoiler]The Luftwaffe and some of the German (Nazi) commanders are illustrated as
'kind' and 'respectful'
. The SS (Schutzstaffel) and SD (Sicherheitsdienst) are the 'bad guys', which is correct. They were the elite troops of Adolf Hitler & Heinrich Himmler and committed the mass murders. The Wehrmacht did it too, but not like the SS. The SD were the 'hunters' and were responsible for the security, the SS took care of their prisoners.
[Show spoiler]That's clearly shown in this picture.

As it is (loosely) based on a true story, the answer is no ...

I consider it a "classic Hollywood" colour film. Classic for its American-ness.
