Hey, if being short is the only thing I have to worry about in life, so be it. It's going to suck when I start dating, oh well. Alright sorry to derail the thread, ![]() I never thought about adding more shelves. 8 would be so awesome. I currently have the Atlantic 35335596 590 CD, Elf, Titanium, 38.5-Inch Box (CARB P1) stand because I am under some size constraints. It measures 27.2 x 10.9 x 70.2 inches and I configured it to have 8 shelves. It does wobble slightly, but does the job for now. |

Has actually been years since I've used shelving though. When my DVD collection reached the 800+ mark years ago I decided to go about things a different way. My 2100+ DVD collection now resides within 6 Sony DVD changers, all of which fit on a standard A/V cart that also holds all the other equipment required to integrate them into my system. I also just recently integrated 6 Sony Blu-ray changers into my setup as well. Went with 2 stacks of 3 this go round rather than stacking them 6 high. Takes up the same wall space roughly as one of the black bookshelves shown a few posts up minus the height of course. Quite a small footprint for storing 2,400 Blu-ray discs. In any event, feel free to hit up my gallery if you'd like to check out pictures of my setup. Time to get this thread back on topic. Last edited by AmishParadise; 05-07-2013 at 02:19 PM. |

I have 2 shelves that are glass shelves. They are a bit more shallow and obviously less thick and I debate whether with the glass shelves you could get 9 shelves in place for blu-ray. They also look fantastic and can't imagine you would need anything behind them.
Haven't tested it yet, but tempted. Anyone else try only glass shelves with blu-ray? 8 or 9 shelves possible? |

I found this on google image search and I was wondering how does the bookcase handle on hard flooring?
I was looking at getting this one to keep it a little more pleasing as I have a bunch of other stuff I need to put in besides my movies. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/pr...94/#/S59898294 I was just wonder if it's solid and all. ![]() |

I've been using BILLY bookcases for over a decade and have loved them, BUT I have a small living space so it isn't practical to literally double the cubic footage that my collection consumes anymore.
For people in similar situations, I have something to share: For a while Ikea was making a bookcase called BESTÅ, which fit blu-ray cases perfectly with about 1" of lead space in front of them, had a lower upfront cost, and came pre-drilled to fit the correct number of shelves (I admit there's about 5" of extra space at the top, though). I can't find the bookcase with the same dimensions that I bought two years ago on the website (which was about 10" shorter than a full-sized BILLY), but I've always had more luck actually going to the store. Anyway, I've replaced two of my BILLYs with BESTÅs and am very happy with the square footage I've reclaimed. Might be a good option for some people. I just bought 2 of these over the weekend not bad for $60. Was just going to buy 1 and 3 extra shelves but at $15 extra each figured it be better to just buy a 2nd and use the shelves from the 2nd one. I can always go to the store and cut my own shelves to length for cheaper or get glass which I might. Been meaning to just build my own but don't got the room for it until I move so these will do for awhile. |

I use the Billy Bookcases to hold all of my media and gaming accessories, and I love them. Mine line a wall in my room and hold Blu-rays, DVDs, CDs, video games, VHS tapes my wife won't let me get rid of, and collector stuff.
Here is a link to my gallery pics: https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...r=kingofgrills I need to update the room pics, but it will give you an idea of the Billy Bookcases. I use multiple sizes, including a corner unit and the CD add-ons in between the other bookcases. I use solid doors, instead of glass, since I mostly have game accessories and guidebooks behind them. |
