With Walter Hill on board producing/script polishing. That entire project was a "who's who" of 80s genre greatness, and that's excluding the cast they would have pulled together.

Of all the movies to never get made, that one makes me the most irritable. I'm flabbergasted with how much 80s nostalgia has pervaded the big and small screen that this project has never been resuscitated. Black allegedly gets asked about it frequently.

After that, the biggest omission on Carpenter's (magnificent) filmography is his western. Would've loved to see his vision of one during the prodigious phase of his career.

Wasn't Kurt Russell being eyed to star in it, too?

Well I have no clue who has the rights to Dead Space or if EA works with movie studios.
But I feel like this could be a moderate success yet slightly cheap if done on $50 million. Or a risky but worthwhile effort if given $100 million.

And fans want Gunner Wright but I don't think there's a chance in hell he would be cast.

You've gotta imagine he was in the mix. Would've been so cool to see guys like Powers Boothe, James Remar, Tom Atkins and Sonny Landham in various soldier roles, with Charles Cyphers, Adrienne Barbeau and Peter Jason lending support. The mere thought leads to convulsions.

Even though they're often associated with different kinds of movies, I've always firmly linked Hill and Carpenter together, and believe there was a lot of overlap between their careers. I would have loved to have seen them collaborate at the height of their respective powers.

The Thing remake director (of The Thing from Outer Space), John Carpenter, could do well with these hybrid monsters inhabiting the dead ship. From 2013 to 2022, it looks like it's probably not going to happen with his direction, considering the Dead Space animated films already made in that time. Not sure why it stall out other than the film rights, producer funding, stuff like that as usual with any big AAA film.

Sounds like an off hand comment. He’s just hypothetical speaking, not something he’s actually committed to.

He seems to be enjoying making money off Halloween and being able to make music and smoke pot at his leisure. Or has he explicitly stated that he wants to direct another movie? At the least, you’d figure he’d be able to get something going with one of the streamers if he really wanted to. Though not something on this scale.
