If you buy more than twenty things a year at Amazon, it pays for itself. I can't tell you how much money Prime has saved my wife and I.

Yeah but depending on your purchasing volume, that money can be spread out. It's the greatest deal on the planet.
If you purchase 20 or more BD's a year you've already made your money. That's just BD's. Prime works with thousands of other things, and with some marketplace sellers, AND you get streaming content.

The biggest no-brainer in the history of Earth.

I don't see the correlation. The cost of the item has nothing to do with my disapproval of these theater release date, Blu-Ray announcements, nor have I seen anyone else express that cost has anything to do with it.

The majority of the movies I buy are blind buys... and I don't regret buying them at all

Depends on how much you order. Prime is $79/yr. According to Amazon I had 290 ( ) orders placed in 2012. That's $0.27 per order.

In other news, Amazon Prime addiction is apparently a thing...

Its smart to do it this way that way right when people get out of the theater they can go pre-order there copy. It makes way more sense while the movie is still fresh in the customers mind. I would think ppl on this site would be happy when pre-orders come up really fast. Upset if they show up late and upset if there early.Makes no sense to me.

I dunno about you, but when I go to the movies I have to pay for the tickets before I see the film, so how is this any different? The movie tickets cost a hell of a lot more than the blu ray. Besides, it's the 6th movie. I knew what to expect. I would have pre-ordered the blu ray before they even started filming it if I could.

And you're saying this on blu-ray.com. Again, blu-ray.com This is what we do.

As for why there's suddenly pre-orders for movies the first weekend they're in theaters now: it's called striking while the iron is hot.

In the grand scheme of home video releases, you can argue that it's a recent trend, but having worked in a video store for almost a decade now, I can say it's not THAT recent. The window between theatrical release and home video release has been shrinking for a long time now. When you consider that studios now tend to see theatrical showings as a giant advertisement for the DVD or Blu-Ray release (albeit one that can produce a lot of revenue in it's own right), the option to go home after watching the movie in theaters and place an order for it right then and there makes sense...

Hopefully the limited packaging is just a special slipcover to match the other five new slipcovers.

I'm not sure what the prices are where you live, but here, 1 movie ticket does not cost more than the standard price for a new release Blu-ray. And there are such a thing as bad sequels. Not saying Furious 6 is bad, as I haven't seen it and the reviews have been mostly positive. But if this was back in the 90s, you strike me as someone who would pre-order Batman & Robin, because it's the 4th movie and you knew what to expect.

Also, it's not blindbuyblu-ray.com. I don't think that's implied at all and until I came here, I had no idea people regularly blind pre-ordered and blind bought their movies all the time.

I hope I'm not coming across as antagonistic because that's not my intention.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for myself the reason for doing that is the following:
  • The price: Just the ticket price for 2 people (my wife and I, we watch all movies together) for FF6 is exactly $33 with todays exchange rate. Buying only this Blu-ray (which is something I never do, I usually find at least 5 movies to order at once) and getting it shipped to Sweden will cost me $27.47. Yes, there is a risk I have to pay import tax, but items shipped one by one is almost NEVER picked up...
  • Picture quality: This might not be something you experience in the US or other countries, but I get a better image in my home theater setup than I see in the theater (at least the local theater even though it is quite new). I might be experiencing better picture quality if I decide to pick a theater more centrally located, but that will also raise the cost since we have to travel there and back again.
  • Bonus reason: We got a son last year and watching movies at home is simply so much easier now. However, that hasn't really changed anything. Before he arrived we only went to the theater when we got free tickets (that is a quite used practice in Sweden to give free theater tickets, if a whole group of people in your workplace has done a good job with something).

I don't think the statement in itself should give you any trouble, but it could have been delivered in a slightly less condescending way...

Wow, none of that would have ever occurred to me. Your reason for pre-ordering movies you've never even seen actually makes sense to me. Thanks for the input.

And yes, my statement could have been written in a slightly less condescending way. In order to avoid an argument, I will apologize to whomever it may concern for not phrasing it better. Before reading your post, I honestly couldn't figure out why someone would do something like this.
