Possession (1981) (Special + Limited Editions)

It will officially be August tomorrow. Doesn't look like the Mondo website has been updated. Anyone hear any updates on the Blu-ray release of Possession?

It should be released some time in Q4 of 2013, I think. At least that's what I've gathered based on the (vague) statements I've read thus far.

This is my single-favorite film, and I'll be thrilled whenever the blu-ray is released. Proud to already have the (butchered but still intriguing) VHS cut and DVD already in my collection; I also went to see it on 35mm twice when it played here in Baltimore about a year ago.

About the acting, as others have mentioned I think every performance is extraordinary--Adjani's particularly, to be sure, but Neil is no slouch and Heinz Bennent's Heinrich makes his every scene pop with a deranged humor all his own. The performances are hyperactive and stylized, but anyone who's seen other Zuwalski films or Fassbinder works like In a Year of 13 Moons or Satan's Brew will find themselves in similar, masterfully orchestrated territory.

I own all the other Zulawski releases from Mondo Vision and thought they did an exquisite job. I look forward to this (and, of course, any other Zulawski releases forthcoming from the label).

great minds think alike!

I think it's slowly crawling from cult curiosity to canonization. I've heard a lot of young filmmakers saying they are heavily inspired by Possession.

It was a great experience to see the film come alive with a big audience on 35mm, and heartening that more than 100 people came out to each screening of POSSESSION in 2013 (and walked away converts).

I saw the second sight UK import in Los Angeles yesterday...Does anyone know if the MacGo Bluray player for mac plays multiregion blus? I have half a mind to just buy that import.

I wish that Mondo Vision would come out soon...Mondo Vision really needs a twitter...or a facebook...or a mailing list...or something!

I had emailed back in late June:

we have hit an unexpected roadblock on the manufacturing side and we are
working around the clock to get things fixed asap. Any date that I give you
right now won't be accurate because we are also waiting for the manufacturer
to give us a status update.

I just emailed Mondo Vision last week asking if they still had plans to release Possession and received almost exactly the same response as above today.

I saw a copy of this yesterday at my local Movie Stop. Although I can't remember if it was a Blu or DVD. But they have it.

It was the DVD, no blu release in the US yet.

Yeah, I'm just about tired of waiting as well. I understand that they are having some difficulties beyond their own control but still lets get things done here. I was hoping it would get released within this year but that seems unlikely. Probably will still be under "Coming Soon" even in 2015. They should really get on the ball because this is the title that is going to make them money.
