Great article. Too bad most people, including members of this forum, won't read it. Most people simply do not appreciate realy analysis.

I have always made this point. When you are spedning this kind of cash on an emerging technology then you have to make the decision with the most potential as opposed to the decision only for the here and now. While PQ & AQ are comparable right now, with BD having a small advantage, the real point is that BD has room to grow that HD-DVD simply does not have. As techonology continues to progress, BD will have more room to grow.

The attach rate is the least important factor, since it is the raw sales numbers that really count.
The numbers also change a lot for PS3 users who know they can use their PS3 for Blu-ray... I have seen the numbers range from 20% don't know to 70% don't know... well wtf is it then? Fact is, there is no definite study that shows it. All we know is that it is too high and would be better if it was lower, which is why Sony is launching their new campaign which I hope works.
The easiest thing is to force them to put the actual numbers out there (how many total units by format and how many standalones). If they want to agree to exclude PS3 from player sales then they have to agree to exclude it from attach rate stats. So now let's calculate the

"True Attach Rate": BD Software Unites / BD Standalones versus

HD-DVD S/W Units / HD-DVD Standalones

If BD S/W sales are 2:1 while BD Standalones are 3:2 then that means that BD has an attach rate at least 3 times better than that of HD-DVD.

"Oh, wait... what's that? You want to include the PS3 again? OK, that's fine... let's also count it as a legitimate player too then. Oh, we can't. Well why not? Explain this all to me again."

A simple 60-second conversation blows their entire argument apart.
