That went pretty fast. The stock was all over the place when I was ordering earlier. Mine is shipping now.

Sort of glad I missed this; I've been going a bit crazy buying records the past couple of weeks so I would've had to pass on it anyway.

You can still order it at that price though even if both Best Buy and Amazon are backordered

Well I have just pre-ordered Gatchaman II! I'm very excited about finally being able to see this in good quality with retail English subs.

I'm from Europe so it did set me back a total of $87 but hey, it's Gatchaman II so it's worth it to me! You know, in a way I hope this will not get a Blu-ray release for a while because of this...

Having already owned a partial DVD set of this beloved childhood series (love the Alex Ross artwork), I've been keeping an eyeball on the BD for several years waiting for a more reasonable price (yes, I can be a tightwad). Amazon now has this box set listed at $59.96 – I'm thinking this could be my time to buy.

I'm not certain about Sentai, but I know it was $52.49 when I ordered it from RightStuf's holiday sale two years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if it pops up again (and probably for cheaper than what I paid).

I paid 37.99 for it during one of Sentai's sales either last year or esrlier this year. But 52 is a good price for that many episodes. Show is worth it!

And they're only DVDs but don't miss out on the sequel series at Sentai for 80% off I think II and F are like $15-16 each.

I read recently that the animation improves drastically at some point during the series as the creators perfected way to animate, does anyone know a ball park figure on which episode the improvement is noticeable for the first time? I'm currently on episode 51.

Can't help. I watched the first few episode and Ken was the only featured. I want to know when the show featured all 5 equally. I saw some later ones, so I know they EVENTUALLY do, I'm just curious as to when.

The first half of the series features Ken and the second half features Joe. That much I do know.

TRIVIA about the name:

"Gatchaman" is the official commander codename for Ken The Eagle.

The team is called "Science Ninja Team", and each member (outside Ken) is thus considered as being "Science Ninja Team Member".

Only when Ken The Eagle is together with all 4 of them, they are properly named "Science Ninja Team Gatchamen", because "Gatchaman" is Ken's codename as commander of the team.
