[Show spoiler]Well, I'm glad someone liked it. There were parts of that movie that were a bit much anyways, but they were far more look-past-able to me than the ending.

I guess in a way it was a surprise, since it's a lot happier than most Fincher endings, but one the reasons I like him so much is he doesn't feel the need to pander to sappy, sentimental, happy-ending lovers. So it may have been a change, but not a good one to me.

Honestly, there were enough twists piled up on each other there at the end (arguably too much), but with the way it ended, I wish there was one more. At that point, any more twists would have been ridiculous, but they could not possibly make the ending less satisfying for me than it was.

Don't get me wrong...
[Show spoiler]I had/have issues with it, but for whatever reason it doesn't bother me as much as it normally would due to the rest of the film. I just try and not think about it too much... I think t from a character development POV it worked, but realistically I didn't buy it.

I agree, and would like to add Insomnia, Nattevagten (Nightwatch), Oldboy and the whole slew of Korean and Japanese horrorfilm remakes as well. I don't see any reason why they were remade as the original versions were excellent and in no need of being remade.

Even more annoying than unnecessary remakes....the endless b!tching about unnecessary remakes. It's really simple. If you don't like that a movie was remade, don't watch the remake and watch the original you love so much.

I didn't say you didn't have the right, nor did I single you out. Your "right" doesn't make you any less annoying tho.

The real Fedor wouldn't b!tch. Just saying. You could always change your name to Fedora.....

I don't think I ever claimed you did. Besides everyone agrees people complaining about people using their right to complain about a product are the worst whiners. After all nothing is worse than a whiner who's also hypocritical about his whining. Even the real Fedor would agree with that.

Edit: Your silly attempts at taunts are strangely illogical. A Fedora is a hat. You know like the one Freddy Krueger wears in the Nightmare on Elmstreet films.

All right, let's not derail this thread with complaints about remakes because it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. There are a couple of threads dedicated to discussions on remakes/reboots already, so move the conversation -- if you want to continue it, that is -- there please.

2/3 of the way through the novel and it's a real page-turner, the kind of expertly crafted thriller that keeps you reading late into the night.

The comparisons to Patricia Highsmith are well-earned, and I'm even more eager than before to see what Fincher will do with this excellent source material.

Heh. Get back to me when you've finished the book. You've only read the good parts thus far. It was a page-turner, no argument there. I finished it in 3 days. But the ending(if you can even call it that) was a major letdown.

Just saw the news that Girl Who Played With Fire is not dead, and is being rewritten by the writer of Se7en. Seeing as Vraig's schedule is going to get busy very soon I would expect big news for this coming quickly.

BUT the 20,000 leagues film is definitely dead.

She'd be an interesting choice. Hot enough looking to be Amy Dunne when she first meets Nick(Ben Affleck), yet could be made to look older and frumpy when things go sour between them. The only downside is her American accent is not very good. I think there are better actresses out there for the part, but maybe Fincher sees some untapped potential in her.

I hope this happens. Have loved Pike since Die Another Day and fell hard for her after Pride and Prejudice. She deserves a lead role like this.

Andrew Kevin Walker Rewriting ‘Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel
Quote:
Meanwhile, movement has been brewing on another David Fincher project recently. Sources close to the filmmaker’s camp tell us Andrew Kevin Walker, “Seven” screenwriter and the scribe who also worked on “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea,” has been hired to quietly work on the the script for “The Girl Who Played with Fire,” the sequel to “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” A ton of money has already been spent on the sequel, with Steve Zaillian paid a hefty sum to write the first draft, and Sony don’t want to just write off that film, hence pursuing the sequel and trying to maintain whatever momentum that franchise has left. This is good news for fans of Fincher and the ‘TGWTDT’ series (Walker is apparently almost done with his draft), but there’s a catch.

The window to shoot “The Girl Who Played with Fire” is incredibly small, and both Fincher and Craig are busy this fall. The director will be shooting "Gone Girl," while the actor is hitting Broadway to star in the play "Betrayal" opposite his wife Rachel Weisz, with the show running from October 1st to January 5, 2014. 'Played With Fire' would need to arguably shoot in early 2014, otherwise Sony would have to wait even longer as Daniel Craig will likely be busy for a large chunk of next year, shooting the Sam Mendes-directed "Bond 24" (which already has a 2015 release date). That's not to mention that Fincher will likely require several months of post-production on “Gone Girl.”

So the question is, does Sony wait until 2015 to start shooting the “Dragon Tattoo’ sequel or do they simply go with another director? The answer may have already arrived as THR notes that "Fincher's chances of helming ['Played With Fire']...are all but dead." Fincher signed a pay or play deal and gets rewarded handsomely whether he directs it or not, but Sony was said to not be happy when “Gone Girl” was announced last week, and it appears they are now prepared to continue the Millenium series without the director.
