My thoughts exactly. I love this movie as well. I wish it got more respect. I watch it at least once a month. The soundtrack to the movie is incredible as well.

John Williams is King!! I love the opening theme and how the snares march and crescendo in the buzz rolls (I was a drummer for 8 years, and I love me some drums!!)

I think it's one of the most re-watchable films I own.

Very cool fact about the score, as I understand it from reading online: Williams was super busy scoring Hook at the time for Spielberg, so he didn't have time to write a full score for the film. Instead, he composed a series of thematic pieces, which were given to Stone and his editors as a sort of toolbox from which they assembled the score for the film.

The score works AMAZINGLY well in the finished film.

I'm happy with the digibook version. I always do find it odd that Warners likes to package a lot of JFK biographies, etc. with this film despite it not being about JFK, but a fictionalized conspiracy about his death.

I might bite on a re-release if it had a new remastered transfer.

I wouldn't say I'm much of a fan of Oliver Stone or this movie but, I do follow / collect material regarding the JFK assassination so want to upgrade my DVD of this to blu-ray.

Think I'll wait to read some more reviews but it looks like I'll probably just get the UK steelbook....

God, I hate these UCEs. Still waiting for BEN HUR and CITIZEN KANE standard case editions. Do you think we can expect these anytime soon since both UCEs have been out for a while now?

I'm assuming he wants a standard edition of the UCE with the exclusive disc included. Only the UK (and possibly a few other countries) sells a standard edition that has the same discs as the UCE sold here

Nothing related to movie it appears, which makes it an easy enough pass for me. I love the film but feel I know plenty about the real man, and if I want to know more I have History channel and the public library. It's also pretty ghoulish to anniversalize a death IMO.

I agree and if there is no new material other than useless trinkets then it is simply unworthy of my money.

He could be , I just assumed he'd be aware that they did release that here in a few standard case iterations lol. Warner has released some UCE's in standard cases before (minus the swag of course). The Wizard of OZ Emerald Edition is one example.

Of course. But in this case, I believe the banner is emblazoned with the words "50th Anniversary Edition". What anniversary is being "celebrated" (because that's the right word)?

I've always been very fond of the movie, and I used to have a delirious obsession with the assassination itself -- several years ago I visited Dealey Plaza, and a veritable JFK industry had sprung up there in the wake of the film's release. Some of the merchandise I saw there might have been in questionable taste, but calling this an "Anniversary Edition" is faintly ghoulish.

It's really just a problem of language. If they'd called it a "Commemorative Edition", I doubt it would've registered at all.

I couldn't recall, as I always go for the swag-filled UCE...it's an addiction!!
I just thought WB gave 3 different release options for these types of things(UCE, non-swag UCE, and standard amaray).

There is in fact 1 additional film, and 2 documentaries included that I assume you as a history major will actually find interesting. The only downside is they are in SD.

PT 109 - A 140 minute film from 1963 that depicts JFK during his Navy years. It's the first film done of a sitting President.

JFK Remembered: 50 Years Later - A brand new 120 minute documentary looking back on the ~1000 days JFK was in office, with plenty of archival footage and interviews.

John F. Kennedy: Years of Lightning, Day of Drums
- A 90 minute documentary made in 1964, and narrated by Gregory Peck. This has never been officially released on DVD before as far as I know.

So that's nearly 6 hours worth of new extras, aside from the historical physical items included. If you're a history buff, I imagine you'd enjoy them. The price on Amazon is also rather inexpensive, at least compared to other UCE's, at just $34
