I guess I can see why the BDA isn't all that worried... this isn't sustainable at all... though I wonder, how much manufacturing costs have gone done since they last did the survey?

And how many A2s are there for sale anyways? Most ppl are reporting them to be sold out or didn't even stock any at all.
Part me hopes they could sell 100K of these if they are losing $500 per. Real math that's $50,000,000? But have you seen their attach rates! OMG!

Default Oh COME ON CAB!!!!! You can't...

drop a bomb like that without a link!!! I can't even tell if you are being facetious or serious with that "attach rate" cliffhanger, you Blu-baller! Pony up! They are selling, what, 20 titles per A2 AFTER the 7 freebies?

So how much royalty revenue on DVD does Toshiba make in a year?

Future revenue on next gen media is driving this game they are playing.

Whatever they lose on players right now is just a future investment as far as they are concerned.

Wow, maybe I should apologise for the earlier language ...but maybe not.

I have access to the real figures (hmmm.... wonder why?) and you are way off.

Change track guys - this one is a red herring.

My advice - buy as many Disney films as you can as soon as possible

HD DVD is on it's last last legs, but strike at the right points and get it right.

See ya.

I dunno, is there a reason I should ban you?

Your IP doesn't match anyone, but you sure talk like a recently smited troll

Toshiba screwed the other retailers, plain and simple with this firesale, and nowthey're losing even more on the A3s in order to make nice with Best Buy. Simple as that

Toshiba is bleeding alot with HD DVD, they have no chance at winning (Sorry Paramount but it is the truth). They will eventually just call it quits. Theny know that at best, there will only be co-existence. The writing is already on the wall, despite attempts to cover it up with bribes, half-truths, spins, incorrect information, lies, omissions, propaganda, and plain out crap.

Without getting into any detail at all...that's not how accounting works unless other factors come into play. The loss/advertising expense/what ever they call it will appear on their 2007 financials.

I hate to be a Toshiba shareholder right now. Wow, does Toshiba ever have logic with their A2 firesale. What is worse...I wonder how many will return their A2's.

i don't know if this has been said, but a lot of the commenters on gizmondo are saying this is old data for the pricing and that components have come down. what they fail to realize is that all these A2s being sold right now were made all the way back in 2006! They have been in warehouses and sitting on shelves not selling! Id also like to say that nobody and i mean nobody else is going to be producing hd dvd players after this. you can't make a profit off having to make a sub 100 dollar player. im sure venturer is incredibly pissed at toshiba right now. CE support for HD DVD is all but dead.

Soon that WILL be one of the many new uses for them!

Maybe we could start a new and inventive thread. What will the HD DVD players be used for in the not too distant future. Common, be creative!
