‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair’ Will Reboot the Franchise.
The next film won’t be a sequel at all, but the start of a new franchise entirely. http://collider.com/chronicles-of-na...-chair-reboot/ |

I can't imagine why they would choose The Silver Chair to launch a reboot. While it takes place well after The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, it at least has connective tissue to the prior entry in the character of Eustace.
If they were really serious about a reboot, they'd adapt The Magician's Nephew. |

This is a very odd decision. I wonder if they'll just reintroduce Caspian as an old man and forget all cannon about his prior self. Sure it's set a long time after the Voyage with two different children involved, but...wow. They ruined the series out the gates and I can't see this helping. If they go into The Last Battle next I'd assume they'd have to rename it or do something else to start the plot out as Aslan would have to have some sort of cannon built in that doesn't happen in The Silver Chair. |

I think the wording of that article is causing a lot of confusion. Obviously, when we think "reboot" in Hollywood, we take that as starting over from scratch. It looks like in this case, they're using "reboot" to mean that these four films will not have any returning cast and crew members. So the series will basically be split between the Walden trilogy and the Mark Gordon quartet. They will acknowledge each other only when necessary for plot purposes due to the source material, but there won't be any visual or audio echoes. This probably means a new series logo, too.
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, if the series had to be split this way, I'm glad it's happening at this point. The first three books are more tightly linked together whereas books 4 and 7 star Eustace and Jill with two flashback books in the middle (books that only feature cameos from previous characters with mostly self-contained new casts). As much as I liked Will Poulter as Eustace, I don't mind him getting recast since the new actor will get to be the male lead in the two films that bookend this portion of the series. Plenty of time to get used to him, and it makes for a nice symmetry, anyway. I can even deal with a new voice for Aslan that's not Liam Neeson since he's not in these much, anyway. But I feel like The Magician's Nephew is going to really suffer from not having [Show spoiler] And The Last Battle is going to lose so much resonance by not using [Show spoiler] A part of me kind of wonders if Mark Gordon will end up doing what Fox did. Fox wanted Dawn Treader to succeed so badly that they wedged the White Witch, Peter, and Susan into a story that wasn't even theirs, plastering them all over the marketing in an effort to capture the magic of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (even using that film's trailer music and putting falling snow all over the posters). In other words, they saw how lukewarm the response was for Prince Caspian and wanted to oversell that Dawn Treader was another Wardrobe (which it certainly wasn't). What if the Mark Gordon Company stays true to this reboot concept for Silver Chair, but the numbers end up not being what they hoped? Would they bring back the trilogy actors for their respective roles from Horse and His Boy onward? It wouldn't surprise me if this happened. |

This is weird. They can explain away recasting at this point by age differences. Starting over again with this book is weird. If they do adaptations of 6-7, 1, & 3 before the others tho. I will be happy ![]() Magicians Nephew is my second favorite and has potential to surpass all of them. I just want to see it done right... |

For some reason while I know she's always Jadis throughout the series, I always imagined her looking drastically different in TMN then the others. I feel like the books might even describe this. I always thought Jadis should be played by Charlize Theron! |

Four years ago, I would have said that The Magician's Nephew would be the perfect way to reboot the franchise given when the story takes place. And if they wanted to keep the main cast, this would be the perfect way to bridge the "Pevensies Trilogy" onto "The Silver Chair" and onward films with Magician's Nephew in between.
But o well heck I'm excited it's continuing at all. |

I hope its not a full reboot, since Mark Gordon seemed fairly evasive on the details. I'll understand if they want to recast Eustace, but they should definitely bring back Liam Neeson for Aslan, and the original Pevensies if "The Last Battle" is ever made.

[Show spoiler] . Obviously that isn't happening with Walden out of the picture. Charlize would be a fantastic casting choice that I'd entirely back up, though!

After seeing her in Snow White and the Huntsman I thought she'd be perfect. However with the sequel coming out, I doubt they'd give her two witch roles so close together. |

this is finally happening
http://collider.com/chronicles-of-na...reboot-update/ Quote: "Deadline reports that the Sony-based TriStar Pictures is teaming up with The Mark Gordon Company, The C.S. Lewis Company, and eOne to bring The Silver Chair to fruition. Life of Pi and Finding Neverland scribe David Magee is onboard to write the script, and The Silver Chair actually lends itself to a franchise reboot quite well. The story picks up decades after the events of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in Narnia time, with Prince Caspian X now an old man whose son and only heir goes missing. Aslan the lion then sends a pair of children from England to Narnia to attempt to recover him." |
