I did this video clip from the U.K. disc last year. It gives you an idea what it looks like, but be sure to play it in 1080p.

Twilight Time is currently having a discussion with someone on their fb about potentially including a documentary on this. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f..._t=photo_reply

I seriously hope that they include a documentary, with Zulu being such a legendary piece of cinema.

The UK Zulu BD doesn't look anything like film, 70mm or otherwise. It's one of the worst examples of overzealous digital tweaking in the history of the format. It's just as bad as the original Patton.

But as long as it looks "pretty" on your oled TV's I guess that's all that matters.

Some people and their definition of what's supposed to be on screen. I have a 46 inch LED. It definitely looks pretty. I previously had the DVD of the movie. I think the Blu ray import blows away the DVD. The red on the uniforms just totally pops. It's so sharp, I doubt it can even get any sharper. I'm not sure how they can make this look any better. For those of us who like movies to look pretty, this definitely does. Truthfully, isn't that what we all want? Don't we all want our movies to look great? When Patton first came out, yes, I thought it was great. But there are so many close ups in that movie that seeing the newer version, I can see the added details now. But in Zulu, it's a lot of fighting with fewer close ups. If I can't see someone's mustache in detail, so be it. I want the uniforms to pop. I want the scenery to look great. And on the import version, it does. The only thing I don't like, and maybe it has to do with my Panasonic BD65 player, when I play the extras, the rewind and fast forward buttons don't work. I can play it, pause it or stop it, but can't go forward and back. Which is odd as they work in the movie itself. I just figured it has to do with it being an import. If the new version were much less, and had the same extras, just to fix this I'd buy it. I love Zulu. It's one of my favorite movies, but $30 for this when I have the import? Ummmm, no. $15 is where this should be. $20 and I'd consider it. Over $20 and it's just too much, even for this great movie. Over that amount and you're getting into 3d movie territory. With that said, if they want to make this 3d, then I say heck yeah! Now that $30 would be a great price!

People are basically saying the uk release is better because it's cheaper. Every twilight time thread seems to always be about the price not the actual treatment the movie ends up getting.

Yes, $29.95 to be exact (I have the UK version as well), paid $52+ for the shipping along with the other 3 January titles (Khartoum, Main in the Dark and Titus) my Christmas gift to myself

Yes this and Khartoum are looking pretty tempting.

Wrong. In cases such as Oliver, As Good as it Gets, Philadelphia, Sleepless, the transfers are the same as they're coming from Sony and so price wise it is cheaper to import. In a rare case like with The Fury Arrow and other distributors pooled together to pay for a new master as oppossed to the older one Fox licensed out to TT. In this case again it was cheaper to import but Arrows release is region locked. A rare case would be when TT releases the superior product like The Egyptian.

Not really...a movie like Zulu deserves a Criterion type release with lot's of extras this will be even more than a Criterion release with none of the awesome factor.

+1. However, if the PQ is virtually the same as the U.K. release I will not be double dipping for $30. This would have to be a brand new master with grain fully intact for me to double dip at that price.

The extras are different:

Quote:
Special Features: Isolated Score Track / Audio Commentary with Film Historians Lem Dobbs and Nick Redman / Original Theatrical Trailer
The transfer will be different too. Based on what Redman said, I'd expect it to have no DNR, and plenty of grain.
