Default Best Buy upgrade and save?

Any ideas when the next one will be?
Or how often they traditionally run this promotion?

They've traditionally done them once a quarter, I believe. There's usually one in October. People on the forums who work for Best Buy and have access to insider information have said they do not see one scheduled this mont, or into November.

It's very possible that Best Buy is doing away with the promotion, though we don't know for sure. The size of their media department would certainly suggest it's no longer a priority.

This makes me sad.

Please keep in mind that the month of October is not over yet. By the time it's November, and we still haven't heard anything about U&S it would be safe to discount it.

I remember the last U&S we had, it felt like a very short break between the two promotions so they might just be lengthening their periods between the U&S. Maybe once every 6 months? Once a year?

In a way, I'm kinda glad. I've accumulated a bunch of mediocre $5 blus, that I probably wouldn't have bought if they were more. I would say, eh, it's only 5 bucks, but over about 60 blus during its run, that's $300.

I loved getting $5 titles during U&S and it was a great way to get rid of the clutter in one's collection (upgrades, duplicates, bad titles, etc). However, after I traded in most of the clutter I had accumulated over the years and cheap DVDs became harder to come by, I started to lose my enthusiasm for the promo. I hated having to dig deeper into my collection to find titles to use as trade-ins.

So, I have mixed feelings about the presumed end of U&S. I thought the promo was great and a good percentage of my bluray collection was purchased during it but I was getting kind of tired of it. Especially after seeing many of the titles I purchased during the promo go on sale later for $5 without the need for a coupon. I was starting to feel like I was wasting time (waiting at Customer Service) and my DVDs.

It's pretty much been canceled. They do them for the start of each business quarter - January, April, July, & October. October has already come and gone and now with the holidays coming up in just a couple weeks, there is no chance of it coming this year. It might return (highly unlikely) in a different format in 2014, but do not count on it.

Because we are going into the holiday season, I would not expect it to happen anytime soon.

I would wait until maybe February or March, when retail numbers tend to be low.

I always thought the U&S promotion was super successful for Best Buy.
It was when I did the majority of my Blu-ray buying.

Is Best Buy in some sort of financial straits or something?

Have you been there recently? They have almost completely gotten rid of their media section. Most stores are transitioning into cell phone and other appliances now as that is where they are getting the bulk of their sales. By Q1 2014, media (CDs, DVD, Blu) will be even more limited and reduced.

I doubt they're making much during U&S, that it would be deemed "successful" for them. For us, yes...but not sure for them.
