Does anyone know what's going on with Lord of Illusions? My copy from Amazon was also Blu-ray only...

I mailed 101 Films last night when I found it on my copy and they've come back to me impressively quickly this morning, reporting a manufacturing error so they are recalling from retailers.

They said that they are making a new batch with both discs, which they expect to be done in the next 3 weeks - guess Amazon etc will put it back online around then and hold back any orders that haven't shipped yet?

Apologies for familiarity if you've read my post in the other thread

Glad I cancelled my preorders for both. I'll wait until there are some comparisons with the Japanese edition of Dolls as extras are different and I'd like to know if picture quality differs between them.

I just received my Dolls disc, and, for the record, the 'top menu' trick doesn't work. There's also no reversible logo-free cover, which I was hoping for.

It was okay - an occasional white fleck/scratch, decent but certainly not amazing detail. I don't have a BD player in my computer, so I can't post any screencaps, but I'd say it was worth the roughly $14 US I paid.

Edit: I went in expecting a budget-label, no-frills disc, and that's what it was. I would have been disappointed if I had paid top-dollar and wanted a remastered, deluxe presentation, but for what it was, it was decent. Not a ringing endorsement, but it is priced accordingly.

I hope they get these right. I've been on the fence about buying the Aus Moreau disc especially.

Got my copy of DOLLS. Pretty satisfied with the transfers, it does have a few negative specks and scratches but nothing too bad. Grain is preserved too, no DNR. Sound is 2.0 DTS MA despite it saying 5.1 Dolby digital but I'd much rather have a lossless original audio track than a lossy 5.1 remix. Satisfied with the disc overall!

Default A/V Comparison of DOLLS Blu-rays

Does anyone know how 101 Films' transfer of Dolls compares to the Japanese HD remaster released by Happinet?

According to 101 Films, the Japanese disc is an upconvert. I'm not aware of any official reviews yet for either release.

They were pretty speedy about sorting a replacement for Lord Of Illusions. E-mailed on Monday, replacement received yesterday.

Hmm...Stuart Gordon said on twitter that the Japanese bluray of Dolls was the best it ever looked and he hoped 101 films would use the same transfer.

Full details are on their Facebook page:

Sincere apologies to all those who received Lord of Illusions Blu-Ray without the second disc, a button wasn't pressed when it should have been and the first run of stock was faulty.
Anyone who pre-ordered the film and hasn't got the extra disc should email Catherine@lacegroup.com who can send you the missing disc. Alternatively please wait for the new release date of 17th March when the Blu-Ray will be re- released with both discs as originally intended.

Thanks for your patience!
They sent a whole new sealed copy too.

Interesting. The only comment about that Japanese one on here is this

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...7&postcount=16

I find it hard to fully trust labels that don't seem to send out review copies to more discerning places. I know budgets have to be minimised in all departments but it just always strikes me as having something to hide. If the transfer is good, why not have it exposed?

I've been put off 101 ever since the atrocious reports of their release of I Spit On Your Grave. Thankfully it's cut status didn't merit a purchase anyway for me but honestly, I want it either very cheap or hear as much as possible before buying one of their releases.

Got my copy as well. I think it looks decent for what it is. Regarding the lack of a reversible logo-free cover, maybe 101 Films doesn't know they can do it legally. Someone should tell them it's OK (and a good idea if they want to keep collectors happy). But there's something else I'm miffed about. They're using the slightly thicker cases, which is fine, but there aren't any notches for a swing tray if I wanted to add one. In this case, since 101 Films didn't port over the old DVD extras I have to keep the old disc. I can't make my own combo pack since there aren't any notches for a tray. My only option is to put the DVD in a sleeve and throw it in. I mean, it's not the end of the world but it would be nice if these companies thought of these things.

I always store my UK discs in regular-size, US cases. I carefully snip the last 3mm or so of rear cover art (the blank area to the extreme left of the reverse text/logos/imagery) and I'm good to go.

Im still waiting for mine, its been like 3 weeks since Dolls shipped. I was hoping to replace the DVD of it but being someone who collects editions with extras that someday I will watch , Ill the keep DVD. Maybe at some point another studio will release it and can replace the DVD of it. I had hoped Scream Factory would but it's unlikely.

Has anyone got the Austrian/German edition of Dolls? It looks pretty good - all the extras from the US DVD, nice art, slipcover, black case. More expensive but it might be a good deal better overall.
