Default 'From Dusk 'till Dawn' TV Series

Quote:
Robert Rodriguez Directing First Two ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ TV Episodes

Robert Rodriguez is a prime partner in the new El Rey Network, which is the new “genre-busting cable network” aimed at the Latino audience, and we’ve known that one of the cornerstones of the El Rey programming would be a new From Dusk Till Dawn series. Rodriguez isn’t just producing the series, either; as it goes into production in Austin, TX, the announcement has come that he’s directing the first two hour-long episodes.

The show will remake and expand the movie in ten episodes, with D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as Seth Gecko, Zane Holtz (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as Richie Gecko, Jesse Garcia (Sons of Anarchy) as new character Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez, and Don Johnson (Django Unchained, Miami Vice) as Sheriff Earl McGraw.

A press release says more cast will be announced soon, and offers this quote from Rodriguez:

Quote:
If the movie’s the short story, the series is the novel. We have assembled an amazing cast and crew, and viewers can expect to be part of a wild ride when the series premieres on El Rey Network next spring.
There’s also this description of the series:

Quote:
Based on the thrill-ride film, “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” is a supernatural crime saga centered around bank robber, Seth Gecko (Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard “Richie” Gecko (Holtz), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Garcia) after a bank heist left several people dead. While on an escape route to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former minister Jacob Fuller and his family who they take hostage. Using the family RV to make a run for the Mexican border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club that is unknowingly populated by vampires, and forces them to fight until dawn in order to get out alive. The series deepens the tone of the film, adds new characters and backstories and expands the Mesoamerican mythology behind the vampires.

Depending on how mature this is....I might give it a shot, despite wishing I hadn't seen the second or third movie... I liked the first one just fine though...

First Look: D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz in ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ TV Series

Below is the first still of D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz as Seth and Richie Gecko, in the From Dusk Till Dawn TV series from Robert Rodriguez. The two play the roles originated by George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino in the 1996 film from Rodriguez and Tarantino, but the series isn’t just a remake, says the creator.

Rodriguez calls the film the short story version, and the series the novel. Below, he explains a bit more about what we’ll see, and what’s going on in the image.

Buzzfeed has the shot, and the interview.

There will be new characters and plot threads, some of which flesh out the characters’ background before the movie opens. This shot is of a bank heist referenced but not seen in the film, for example.

The whole idea of the series was birthed out of Rodriguez’s interest in the Mesoamerican myths he found while doing research for the original film. Some elements of that mythology ended up in the original film, but there’ll be a lot more in the series. The director says,

Quote:
It is seeing something that you’ve never seen before, this Mesoamerican mythology of demon culture and these vampires that are not your traditional vampires. It’s a mix of this crime saga with these supernatural elements that will make this different from anything else on television.
From Dusk Till Dawn will air early in 2014 on the new El Rey network.

I'm interested in seeing this, but Directv doesn't carry the El Rey Network.

And even those who are interesting in watching this via shady means, there probably wouldn't be anyone to provide it since there are literally only 2 providers carrying this network.

Correcting my post. Directv does carry El Rey, but it's only SD. I assume its a lot cheaper for them since this is a new and unproven network. Noticed El Rey's program schedule is pretty crappy right now. Lots of Texas Justice episodes and infomercials.

X-Files, Dark Angel and Starsky & Hutch come to El Rey

Cool. I haven't seen the X-Files for years now. Too bad it's in SD on Directtv.

Trailer # 2:

I think it looks very good IMO! Even after reading all the negativity on the web. I'll never bash something based only on the trailer! For once, the remake is very respectful to the source material and don't try to change all the story. It's the same story with more meat, and more blood!!

It looks good, but was it just me or were these vamps out in the daylight?

Call me old fashioned, but I really like my vamps at night. This daylight crap is for the birds and Twilight idiocy.

Crap, I made a duplicate thread earlier today. I did a search and couldn't find this thread for some reason. And I actually posted in this thread before. Sorry for the goof.

If a Moderator is willing to merge this thread with mine, that would be fine.

Going to watch this tonight before I hit the sack.

I watched this last night.
I like that the Actor who plays Seth (i think - the only originally played by Clooney) got his Inflections and Mannerisms pretty much perfect.

What does everyone think to the second series so far? Hasn't been as good as the first just feels like a big step down in quality by comparison.

Seems like they're building up to a major showdown against Lord Malvado.

Just binged both seasons and I loved the first season since it felt like remake of the movie over 10 episodes. Second season kind of went off the rails.
