If true, it opens up a greater level of HDD size until we can actually get external HDD support.

I still think it's bloody bizzare that you state 2.5" yet limit the HDD bays to 9.5mm rather than 12.5mm

Your speed and cache as well as SATA number appear to be all the same as the stock drive, so the improvements going to probably be mostly on the increased storage side.

RPM wise, there's nothing out there I have seen atm because IGN only has a normal HDD, SSHD and SSD timings review. If RPM tests become available as well as cache tests, i'll be sure to update the OP

2TB will be the largest size BUT the 9.5mm Samsung HDD as mentioned hasn't quite been released yet. So your best bet is probably 1TB and this is what I feared on a more personal note. People filling up their HDDs. Might be worth you checking how easy deleting the game is and how much of the actual space it says you take; you get back.

Upgrade wise, I would say find the absolutely best SSHD you can find with approximately 1TB storage.
thx for the info.

Seems more accurate and in line with what you'd expect, but I find the right side trying to explain the load times etc. for games incredibly confusing compared to the simple left HDD column.

Going by the chart from gaf you should see a decent increas in load times by going with the 7200rpm drive.

I kind of want to go with 7200rpm, but I'm really paranoid about going above the recommended specs from Sony. I'm sure it creates more heat and draws more power, but I doubt it would be enough to cause any issues.

Ladies and Gents, I have some AMAZING news (if you live in the UK ). Remember that amazing 2TB 9.5mm drive that Samsung are releasing?

Well turns out that it's available as an external HDD solution already, and for the princely sum of £90.80 delivered via DABS.

http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung...ack-9382.html?

Now, usual caveats apply about voided warranty etc. BUT if you actually remove the drive from the casing you can slot it into the PS4 with ZERO problems and enjoy 2TB of storage for the cheapest price around when the actual 9.5mm stand alone HDDs barely seem to be available.

Enjoy

How would you get the outer casing off safely?

You go to the account management part of the options and then it should be under subscriptions I believe. Also would recommend you turn auto renew off just to avoid being shocked at you having a charge on the account on renewal.

Ok, I have some very sad new

Seems like I was mistaken. The HDD reviewers had a look at the components and seems HDD manufacturers wised up to what some users were doing such as what I suggested and they soldered on the USB ports

So they have absolutely NO SATA ports like previous gens that would have allowed you to simply take it out the case and attach it like any other 9.5mm drive sans warranty.

Guess we'll just have to wait for the 'officia' and expensive release of the 2TB

So who has upgraded there HDD already? I am really leaning toward that SSHD by Seagate, the 1TB but just wondering who has already done it and how do they like it. Also if I aleady have downloads, can I just redownload everything again i.e. my season pass for CoD, games?

I upgraded my HDD on launch day with the Samsung Spinpoint. Been using it in my PS3 for the last 6 months. Great HDD & affordable. And yes you can just redownload any content you have as well.

Well I wanted to go with the Seagate do to the SSHD to speed things up just a bit. But thank you for the info. Has anyone put a 10,000 RPM HDD in yet?

I have a second generation HybridSSD 750gb seagate momentus XT installed on my PS3 and it works wonders.

I'm waiting for a Hybrid with more NAND before I upgrade the PS4's
I know the Western Digital Black HSSD has 128GB of NAND "bolted" on board...I have heard it's a "basic" hard drive though. And it's expensive.

The Seagates (2nd and 3rd Gen)have 8GB of NAND and the 1st gen have 4GB
The Third Generation Hybrids from Seagate are 5, 200 RPM drives as opposed to the first and second generations which are 7, 200 RPM

My HDMI port went bad on my launch PS4 from Amazon, so I thought might as well upgrade the HDD on my new PS4! Bought a HGST Travelstar 1TB 7200RPM HDD from Amazon, installed it in my new PS4 and put the stock 500GB PS4 HDD in my fat PS3!

I'm not sure how this HDD works, but could the PS4 use this and put the most used files onto the 120SSD part of the drive? I'm guessing not as this is a dual drive and not a hybrid drive.

Are you talking about the Seagate hybrid drive? The drive is only seen as one drive, the RAM chips which make up the SSD part of it is what speeds it up over a normal drive.

Also I have a question say I want to upgrade my Hdd down the road it's the same as the PS3? I would have to buy the drive and copy over the contents from that to the new drive?

Save what you can to the PS+ "cloud" put in the new HDD, format and then download everything from the "cloud" / PStore.

The Playstation will format a new HDD no matter what so anything already on it will get erased.

Hope that helps
