But I kept thinking, "No, wait...It's been back in ownership for what, fifteen years now? Thought everybody knew that, they've GOT to know by now! ![]() ...PLEASE....stop that. ![]() (I gave up on the damn pointless thing after six movies--Does anyone know what the freakin' thing's for, outside of stroking fetishistic fanatasies for drooling Criterion-thread fanboys?) No shit. That was kind of where I was going with the whole 'are we really sick of sequels' bit. Quote:

![]() [Show spoiler] And to the eighth, ninth, eleventh, and thirty-second posters about to make this same identical post, let's make a nice, friendly b*tch-sla...er, reality check: Later info has revealed that the original IAWL turned out to be under copyright, and after a frank exchange of communication between Republic Pictures and the would-be producers, it is looking very likely as if "Hollywood"'s (or at least, "Overly optimistic bottom-feeding indie producers still living in the 80's"'s) "unoriginal" sequel will not be going forward as planned. This is still in the early stages of negotiations, however, and may be subject to change, but not by too darned much. Say it after me, people. Say it nice, clearly, distinctly, and victoriously: "BUS-tedddd!... ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 11-19-2013 at 07:36 AM. |

On the one hand this is good news of the apparent road block.
But I suspect they knew full well that the rights were not public domain and this was just a way to get enough PR to start talks wth Paramount and to try and convince the studio into making a deal with them. |

If there was ever a user name that summed up how this makes me feel Debbie Downer would be it.

(Watch, we're about to get someone posting, "Whatever happened with that project?", 3-2-1...) But then, y'know, a lot of people who grew up with the "IAWL on every station" joke imprinted on their cerebral cortex as National Cliche' Punchline back in the 80's just aren't aware that it was bought up back in the 90's--That's probably why you may have noticed it hasn't been on "every station" for the last fifteen or twenty years, although contractually licensed broadcaster NBC sure flogs the living crap out of it between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I've even seen a few Christmas sitcom episodes that clearly wanted to depict a joke about the characters sitting around watching IAWL on TV, except, of course, that...rights wouldn't allow them to use IAWL, and they had to rewrite it to depict the characters sitting around watching the '51 Christmas Carol, which was still in public domain. Our 80's-childhood generation is just never going to get that joke out of our system, no matter how much reality intrudes. The young people are lucky, in a way, even if they'll never know what a UHF station was. (So, let's distill this down in easy to read terms for the next page of posters: That movie that bothers you so much? Don't worry--It DOESN'T EXIST anymore. ![]() Maybe we should change the header to "Doesn't get's a sequel".) Last edited by EricJ; 11-19-2013 at 08:17 AM. |

Not every movie should get a sequel. There are some movies that just need to be one and done: Gone With The Wind, It's A Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th Street, Wizard Of Oz......to name a few.
Leave it ALONE Hollywood!!!! It's A Wonderful Life is a timeless classic that does not need a SEQUEL!! What's next....a sequel to The Ten Commandments!! |
