as for Planet Terror, it's hilarious, it's dark, gore, very violent and with some strong parody-acting, i dig it a lot more than DP.

Theatrical version is too long, or extended version is too long?

Am I the only one who loved all of Grindhouse? Planet Terror was fun, Death Proof was Tarantino excellence and the trailers were awesome.

I many be in the minority, but Death Proof is one of my favorite Tarantino films.

I agree with you.

And I think PT and DP off set each other well.

I think 85-90 minutes will have been good for this film ! Instead of what 110-120 minutes ? Is that the extended version ?

and PT should have been 15-20 minutes longer, i never saw the extended version of that one !

I believe, and if I remember correctly, Tarantino was asked out of all of his films which one he didn't like out of all of them and Death Proof was it. I think in the Grindhouse formula where it's two movies, it's good. But, on it's own...

This movie looked like it was shot in Rodriguez's backyard.
Terrible film! I went on opening night at a 10p.m screening and the theater was completely empty. After seeing the film, I could see why it would be.

Saw it in the theater twice during it's 2 week run here, bought both extended dvd steelbooks, downloaded a horrible theater cut from a camcorder (back when it looked like theater cut was never gonna be released except the expensive Japan boxset), complete with people talking and walking in front of cam. Now have the theater cut BD, Planet Terror BD and only missing Death Proof BD because I can't find it for the price I want to pay. Oh yeah, I saw Machete twice in theaters and own that on BD too (Hobo with a Shotgun wasn't all I had hoped, but I'm waiting on a cheap used copy anyway). I did plan to see Machete Kills, but life got in the way and it was gone week 2.
You are not alone my friend!

Yes! I loved the whole Grindhouse experience too! And Death Proof is underrated.

As for Machete Kills...ugh. I loved the Machete trailer in Grindhouse, thought Machete was just okay but Machete Kills is just plain bad. Rodriguez is a fine editor but he really needs to work on his screenplay writing. Machete Kills is by far his worst film.

Well I have not seen those other films. I was in Rodriguez's corner. I really was. But now I want a divorce! No really, this film is a complete jerk off. A waste of time and talent. Sorry but I INSIST that you write a halfway decent story before I pluck down my hard earned money.

On their own, I didn't care much for the extended versions of either Planet Terror OR Death Proof.

But together, as part of the Grindhouse Theatrical Cut, they're a lot of fun.

Machete, as a film, was okay. Since Machete Kills has been getting terrible reviews, I'm gonna pass on it.

Did a blind pre-order, from the library!

To be fair, I did the same with the first Machete movie thinking a full-on special edition would follow the so-so release it got. I finally gave up on the SE and found a used copy with a nice slip this last summer for a great price ($8) and grabbed it up. I can't recall ever seeing this get below $20 at retail, until I got my used copy, then it was cheap everywhere. I'm hoping for the best but it's all 50/50 with the bad reviews and my likes. Half the time I love movies everyone else hates, the other half I agree. Only 81 holds in front of me at the library. Sounds like a ton, but I'm usually somewhere between 150-250 on newer pre-releases, and get them 1-2 months after street date.

I'm a huge library renter too. It's saved me so much money, I rent the dvd for free and if I love the film I buy the Blu, it's great! If your patient you get every movie and some times the library gets the blu-ray version too!

Anyway I'm doing the same for Machete Kills.

Totally forgot this movie existed until I saw the review, then my experience of it in the theater kind of came back to me. Most of the movie felt like a retread of the first one until Mel Gibson showed up, and him and Machete were having dinner conversation with a beating heart in a jar right on the table. That and Gibson's fascination with Star Wars is a special kind of dumb, the kind of dumb that should've been the rest of the movie. Instead it's just a tease for a sequel.
