Just bought a new TV a few months ago, when I moved into my new place. A lovely 55" LG LCD with passive 3D support and smart TV stuff.

Still have my old TV - a 32" Hitachi LCD - right here in the office so I can still watch stuff while I inform all of Blu-Ray.com about stuff.

I sit 8' from an 84" projected screen. I need to make some modifications to my entertainment center, after which I will be 9' from a 100" screen.

The living room area of my apartment is essentially 13' x 13' but the living room-dining room-kitchen corridor is 13' x 34.5'.

The projector, mount, screen and long run cables were less than $1500 when I bought this set up in January '11.

LG Smart TV Caught Collecting Data On Files Stored On Connected USB Drives

Not only was LG sucking up viewer data, it was sending the data on each interaction completely unencrypted. This isn't necessarily a huge problem if the data collection was limited to the channel watched and for what length of time. But as the increasingly creepy sales pitch above points out, LG also wants "search keywords" and a potentially unlimited amount of "other information."

At this point, LG already has a bit of privacy problem. Sending data on channel selection is one thing. Collecting and sending unencrypted web data like search terms is quite another. And it gets even worse.

It was at this point, I made an even more disturbing find within the packet data dumps. I noticed filenames were being posted to LG's servers and that these filenames were ones stored on my external USB hard drive.

Bought 40" LED about 3 months ago after my 40" Samsung LCD died. Picture is absolute cr@p. Endlessly tweaking it to get decent black levels and reduce the ghosting due to bad refresh rates.

As a result I will be buying a Plasma (between 40" and 50") soon and will not be buying another LED!

Planning on buying another house in the next couple of years. Major feature I'm looking for is a room to setup a projection system. Nice setup Naiera!
