Frankly, even in the state it’s in, I’ve still seen worse standalone transfers from other outfits (*COUGH*Rituals*COUGH*).
I may consider getting it on this basis; what is the PQ like compared to the DVD? The DVD is watchable but definitely not the best transfer. I'm not precious when it comes to this (i.e. I don't mind scratches, dirt, etc.), but I do like the picture to be semi-clear. I realize this is a film that is only going to look so good, but there is a lot of room for improvement over the DVD. I've not been able to find any screen captures of the transfer on the Corruption disc, weirdly enough.

I haven’t seen the DVD, but this is clearly an HD transfer. Damage aside, this is still VS we’re talking about.

I have the Barrel Entertainment 2-disc DVD and the CORRUPTION release, and I can tell you that Vinegar Syndrome's version is a major upgrade. In fact, it looks so much better that if the semi-announced VS special edition never surfaces, I won't be all that disappointed. If you're a fan of the film, get the CORRUPTION disc. Also, while I'm not typically interested in adult films, CORRUPTION itself is a pretty cool movie as well, all things considered.

For anyone interested, here's a super quick image comparison I threw together for the folks over on the main Vinegar Syndrome thread.

Old DVD v. 'Corruption' Blu-ray

Even though i'm down for the standalone blu and own Corruption, someone was selling the Barrel DVD on Facebook for a very reasonable price, so I couldn't turn down owning this release legitimately.

I love this release. I got to sit around in a hotel room and watch all the movies on the disc with the Barrell Entertainment guys and drink beers with Roger Waktins as he kept cursing out the woman who sued them to keep 1 or 2 releases of his home movies off the disc. It was a magical night.

At this rate, we'll see this come out in 2024 lol.

Whatever happens, though, I love VinSyn and imagine they're still working extremely diligently to make the standalone blu-ray the final word on this nasty film legend.

Lol, I too am still eagerly waiting. The long lapse in time does make me wonder if they've scrapped the release to be honest. I've held off getting Corruption with the hopes that a standalone release comes out, though I do worry that that title will eventually go out of print and a standalone release of Last House won't follow.

I'm among those eagerly awaiting Vinegar Syndrome's release of LHODES as well. I was a little too swift in selling off the Barrel DVD when this was announced. I've got the Corruption disc for when I want to revisit the film, but I'm still hoping that a full, proper release of this comes out.

I finally got around to watching my Film Around The World DVD (bootleg?) last night and, oh baby, what an ugly/nasty/awesome trip. Honestly, I probably wouldn't buy a cleaned-up version unless it was a longer cut; this is one of those flicks that is far more effective when seen on a "dirty" print.

I just watched it for the first time last week on the Corruption disc. It definitely has a grimy charm in that form, but I'd still be curious how it would look "cleaned up" in the best possible form. And if they somehow managed to find a longer version and also offer some special features, all the better.

Yeah, I don't own porn in my collection so I've been holding off getting Corruption just to see this movie. But I just might bite for next month's Valentine's Sale.

LHoDES is a great valentines day movie

I have given copies to 2 female friends to watch. One is a vegan, so I had to warn her about the slaughterhouse footage. I'm not sure if she watched it. They both are big horror fans, but they didn't know much about the film previously. I first got a copy in the early 80s.

The film is more enjoyable when one finds out behind the scenes information. The commentary from the Barrel DVD is ported over to the VS disk. The Barrel set had a partial interview in a booklet, reprinted from a magazine. Some interesting extras include Roger's recorded phone calls during the shoot.

It's not so much if it's cleaned up or not, but if you are seeing a print that came from Barrel or VS, the biggest issue is much of the color has faded. In many spots it looks like the film is all red and had some green added to get flestones. The old VHS releases are very colorful. The blues and the yellows have faded to varying degrees. Finding a colorful print is likely not going to be easy.
