For the simple reason that Julie Newmar >>>> Lee Meriwether.
(One of the few performers who could actually balance a good villain from the first season WITH the goofy comedy tone of the second season.)
I'll reserve my opinion on Eartha Kitt till I get to those episodes, though.

Great news! And yet I hate sounding so selfish, because I really would like The Green Hornet series, too.

Yep. The show was much better than the movie.

But the movie had 4 super-villains! And the Batcopter! And the Batcycle! And the Batboat! And the Shark Repellent Batspray! And much, much more!

I have never seen "The Green Hornet" series ever...not one episode. I watched "Batman" reruns in the 80s and 90s.

Am I still asleep? Is this actually happening? The holy grail of television on home video finally coming out?

I'm virtually speechless. This news is absolutely stupefying.

Lee Meriwether is no substitute for Julie Newmar.

Damn it, I really don't think this should be moved. Frankly, I think that defeats the whole purpose of the thread. If a mod reads this I would really like this not to get shifted out of the Blu-Ray forum.

Ever since I've come here, people have said that studio people read this stuff. The whole idea is that there's a thread, in the Blu-Ray - NA section, at least until the title is officially announced one way or the other, where people start pointing out that they want this thing on BD. I hate to overinflate the purpose of the thread, because who knows if anyone from Warner does visit, but it's been announced for home video and Blu-Ray is, at the moment, still a possibility.

I always thiought the problem was that Warner was holding the home video release to avoid any association to the succesful film franchise. Also, that Fox had the rights to the TV show (can't seem to remember if there was something that recently made Fox give the rights to Warner or something like that)

Have you ever seen the two-part episode of Batman that guest starred Hornet and Kato? It's pretty cool, but still campy. Kato should have wiped the floor with Robin.

The Green Hornet series was actually a more serious crime drama than Batman. I suggest you check out the Green Hornet episode called "The Preying Mantis" -- it's a great showcase for Kato (Bruce Lee). It's actually available to view (in three parts) on youtube.

I think it's likely that this will also be released on Blu-ray. Anything that's comic book-related gets a high market share on Blu-ray, and besides the article says nothing about DVD or Blu-ray, just that details about "specific platforms" will be announced later this year. So I would be surprised if Warner decided to make this only available on DVD.

I remember enjoying this as a kid, but I wonder how it will wear on me now...

Agreed. This show has a strong, dedicated fanbase that has been asking for it for years. I can't see WB slapping inferior, standard definition, syndicated versions on DVD and calling it a day. The original masters are old and likely not in the best of shape. They'll likely be making new HD masters anyway for DVD, future syndication deals, and streaming, so a BD release would be quite easy and an incredibly foolish thing to skip. When you look at other shows coming out on BD, I can't see them skimping on a show like this that's been requested for years. It will be expensive, but if done right, so what? Just my opinion.

My only concerns are the window cameos that popeflick mentioned. I wonder if they'll all be there? If this was a CBS release, I'd say a definite no. With WB, who knows for sure?

In its first two seasons, they aired two new episodes per week.

I'll buy it in whatever format they release it in. But hopefully it'll have a Blu-ray Release.

And hopefully they won't have to edit out the window guest stars. That would be a shame.

I bought all the action figures and Batmobile Mattel released last year. And was excited they said there would be more coming this year. So it'll be a great year for fans of Classic Batman.

If they do a bluray release I look forward to all the complaints about the MSRP when it's announced. Batman '66 would be awesome on bluray as well. I would definitely get this bad boy.

Hopefully they'll use the commentaries that were reportedly recorded for these by West and Pals.
